Toronto Blue Jays Activity by the Trade Deadline
Before John Gibbons shares his opinion on what swaps this year’s Toronto Blue Jays could do, he and David Bastl take a walk down memory lane to when the franchise, with “Gibby” as coach, pulled off some interesting deals.
“The key was that we needed another starter. That’s when David Price came in. And we needed to clean up our infield defence with Troy Tulowitzki. Age was catching up with Jose Reyes. He just couldn’t move as well anymore. That made all the difference in the world.”
As for this year’s Blue Jays team, John Gibbons’ assessment is that they’re solid everywhere. Toronto isn’t in any position to get someone who will make a huge impact. That said, a popular philosophy still applies:
“You can always use bullpen help. They got Cabrera as Nate Pearson was sent down (to the minors). But everyone is competing for the same top dogs out there. This is where the great general managers make their name, at this time of year.”
