Toronto has experienced a solid start to the season, although they’ve failed to make a significant push for the AL East yet. At 21-15 – heading into Wednesday’s game with the Phillies – the team has gone through more ups than downs. That doesn’t mean things are perfect. What can the club improve?

Toronto Could Improve the Bullpen

Co-host David Bastl dives right into it in the episode’s second segment. A month and a half into the campaign, what would John Gibbons, were he still managing, place onto or add to the current lineup?

“I’d have to say bullpen. I think everybody who is “in it”, when it comes to the trade deadline in July, they’re always looking for relievers.”

Gibbons still believes that the Blue Jays have a solid group of relief pitchers. He certainly doesn’t claim that there are any massive issues in the bullpen. But as a former manager himself, he knows what devils lie in the details, especially when coming down the stretch in the hunt for playoff spots, pennants, and championships.

Right now the Jays are primarily relying on Erik Swanson, Tim Mayza, Nate Pearson, Yimi Garcia, Anthony Bass, and Jordan Romano.
