Angels’ Mike Trout Injures Left Wrist

From the moment Mike Trout swung his bat something felt off. He immediately walked away from the plate, wringing his left hand to shake off a sudden surge of pain. Los Angeles manager Phil Nevin emerged from the dugout to check on his slugger, who was quickly taken out of the game.

Said Mike Trout afterwards to the media:

“It doesn’t feel great. I mean, there’s no two ways to it. Hopefully, just a sprained wrist. I can’t describe the pain I felt. I never felt it before, ever, before this. I never had wrist problems or anything.”

With the MLB All-Star Game coming up in Seattle next week, Trout is now in danger of missing his third consecutive ceremonial game due to injury. At the time of writing the club awaits reports from x-ray scans and tests.

The Angels – 45-42 – lost the game 10-3, dropping them to 4-6 in their last 10 games and losing some of the steam they had gathered in early June that put them in the hunt for the AL West lead.

Mike Trout had been hitting .263 with 18 home runs and 44 RBIs. While far behind teammate Shohei Ohtani’s numbers, Trout is still a largely dependable player and a key to whatever potential success the club can attain. L.A. is already dealing with an injury to Gio Urshela, who had hit a terrific .299 this season. Urshela suffered a fracture pelvis a few weeks ago.

UPDATE: The Los Angeles Angels have played Mike Trout an a 10-day IL with a hamate fracture.
