Toronto Blue Jays vs. Chicago White Sox: Odds, Prediction

Toronto is a -175 favourite on the MLB odds with a total of 8.5 runs.

Betting Analysis

The AL and NL rosters for the July 15 All-Star Game at Truist Park were unveiled on Sunday. Toronto’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will start at first base for the Junior Circuit, and catcher Alejandro Kirk was added as a reserve.

The White Sox are in the midst of a massive rebuild but at least aren’t historically bad like they were in 2024. There are some solid pieces already in place like young catchers Kyle Teel and Edgar Quero, and the Pale Hose have one of the best farm systems in the majors. One of the club’s top prospects, shortstop Colson Montgomery, made his big-league debut over the weekend in Denver. Right-hander Shane Smith was named as the Sox’s lone All-Star. The Blue Jays will miss him in this series.

Chicago hasn’t won many series’ this season but took two of three at Rogers Centre from June 20-22 – Toronto took off in the AL East standings right after that. Bo Bichette had a big first series, going 6-for-14 with a double, homer and four RBIs. Guerrero was 1-for-10 with a solo homer. Chicago’s best-known player, outfielder Luis Robert Jr., was just 1-for-12. The White Sox would love to trade the Cuban, but his value is very low right now batting well under .200 and on the IL with a hamstring injury. He does play good defence and steals bases so some contender might be willing to take the risk.

The Jays, who haven’t lost a season series to the White Sox since 2021, were 3-0 on the South Side of Chicago in 2024.

Toronto Blue Jays

The Blue Jays are atop the AL East by three games (+115 favourites to win it) and won their MLB-best eighth game in a row Sunday, 3-2 at home vs. the Los Angeles Angels to sweep a second series in a row. It marked Toronto’s first sweep of a homestand of seven or more games since 1994. It’s the first time in more than three years (May 24-June 2, 2022) the Blue Jays have won eight in a row. The Halos only managed eight runs in the three games and two went to extras.

Reliever Ryan Burr got the victory in his first outing of the season Sunday after dealing with a right shoulder injury. Jeff Hoffman finished it for his 22nd save but should be available Monday if needed. Infielder Andres Gimenez was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday due to a left ankle sprain suffered Friday. Outfielder Joey Loperfido made his 2025 big-league debut Sunday and had an RBI single. The Blue Jays seem a lock to break the club record of 52 wins before the All-Star break set in 1985 and matched in 1992.

Veteran righty Jose Berrios (4-3, 3.64 ERA) takes the mound Monday. He was hammered last time out at home by the Yankees, but the Jays were able to win regardless. Berrios dominated the White Sox on June 21 in a home victory, allowing one unearned run and two hits over a season-high 7.2 innings. Andrew Benintendi has seen Berrios the most of any White Sox active batter and is 10-for-35 off him with two doubles, a triple and homer. Toronto is 7-0 in its past seven at the White Sox.

Chicago White Sox

The only team worse than the White Sox this year in the majors is Colorado, and Chicago just took two of three there over the weekend. The team is horrible on the road at 11-36 but a fairly competitive 19-24 at home.

With two hits and an RBI, outfielder and usual leadoff hitter Mike Tauchman improved his batting average to .372 over the past 11 games. We would imagine the White Sox honor former All-Star closer Bobby Jenks in their first home game since he died Friday in Portugal of stomach cancer. He was a big part of the 2005 World Series team. The Sox haven’t been close to returning since and are at least a couple of years away from realistic playoff contention.

Righty Sean Burke (4-7, 4.03 ERA), in his second big-league season, is on the mound Monday. He was excellent last time out at the Dodgers in allowing one run over six in a no-decision but has much better home numbers: 4-2 with a 3.06 ERA in nine starts. This will be the 25-year-old’s first career look at Toronto. The under is 7-2 in the White Sox’s past nine.
