Baseball: Phillies and Brewers Look to Make Home Advantage Count
The NLDS concludes tonight with two huge Game 5 clashes. First up will be the Brewers and the Diamondbacks; then the Phillies and the Cardinals will finally settle their series. Al Dannity previews both these match-ups.
This is why you won the race
It’s tough to be a Brewers fan right now. After rushing out to a 2-0 lead in the series, the Brew crew suffered two beat-downs in the desert. Momentum is with the Diamondbacks tonight but it’s time for some focus. The race to secure the second best record in the National League happened for a reason. That reason is getting to play Game 5 in your home ballpark. The Brewers have to get their heads screwed on straight and think back to the motivation that put them where they are right now.
Yovani Gallardo is good pitcher by anyone’s standard but at home he is nothing less than an ace. This is his house. Milwaukee knows that with Gallardo on the mound for a home start, they have a better than even shot at winning this evening. This isn’t an open and shut case. The D-Backs showed they have the hunger for this fight in each of the last two games. Now it’s time for the Brewers to match them once again. It’s going to be epic but I like Milwaukee to win out.
The Doctor is in the house
If you could pick one pitcher to save your season in a win or go home situation, there is only one choice. Philadelphia; it’s time for Roy Halladay to operate. The Doctor delivered the goods in Game 1 but with the Cardinals winning Game 2 and Game 4, he is needed once again.
The Cardinals won’t go down easy, especially with a weapon like Albert Pujols in their batting line-up. As with the previous encounters in this series, I expect a tense battle over the course of the game. The Cardinals have the talent to keep this close but if the Phillies can get on the board early, then they will be in for a very long night. Losing Halladay for Game 1 of the NLCS will be a price worth paying if he delivers a win tonight. I like the Doctor to do what he does best; grind opponents into dust. It’s going to be a tense night and it wil be close but the Phillies can do enough to come out on top.
