High Quality Golf Betting at the Memorial Tournament in Muirfield, OH!
Frank Doyle has picked four winners so far in 2011 – this week he makes his picks for the Memorial at Muirfield, OH!
It takes quality to win the Memorial. The course at Muirfield is designed by Jack Nicklaus, the greatest player the game has seen (sorry, Tiger) and you don’t just rock up and win it. You have to pay your dues as a competitor. The course is long at 7,265 yards, the rough is unforgiving and the weather can be very unforgiving at Columbus.
A lot at the historical winners of the Memorial tells its own tale – Tiger’s won it four times, Kenny Perry three, Jack, Tom Watson (a winner at 61 on the Senior Tour last week – go Tom!) and Greg Norman have all won twice.
The new (and deserved) World No 1, Luke Donald, is the ante-post favorite for the Memorial and he’s certainly been in form lately. But it’s a big ask to win at Wentworth after a playoff, finally become World No 1 and then fly to Columbus to win an invitational tournament against the best in the world at one of the toughest courses in America. It’s certainly too big an ask in terms of golf betting.
There have been a lot of big priced winners on tour this year (Keegan Bradley, winner of the Byron Nelson last week, was available at +20000 ante post) but it’s hard to see someone exploding out of the field at Muirfield, of all venues. Tried and tested is the way to go as we choose Sports Interaction’s

Phil Mickelson. (+1200). With Donald, the proven class of the field. Not having one of his greatest ever seasons but a winner on tour already and a man with the game to win at Muirfield. Can’t be ruled out.
Bubba Watson. (+3500). A two-time winner this year, at Torrey Pines and Avondale, Bubba Watson is second on the tour in driving distance and first in greens in regulation – ideal Muirfield stats.
KJ Choi. (+3500). Defeated David Toms in a playoff for this year’s Players Championship. If he’s still in contention on Sunday, he can go ahead to win it.
Martin Laird. (+5000). The Scotsman is one of the up and coming stars of golf, and a winner on tour at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He’s good value at the price.
