Tiger-Cats vs. Stampeders Prediction: CFL Week 19 Point Spread, Odds
The Tiger-Cats gave their postseason chances a crucial lift with last week’s narrow 18-14 win over Saskatchewan, but remain four points back of Montreal in the race for second place in the East, and two points behind the Roughriders in the battle to claim the final playoff spot in the division. The Stampeders enjoyed a bye last week after dismantling the Toronto Argonauts in a 29-2 home victory in Week 17, and have now earned the win in four of their past five outings.
Backed by just 40 per cent of sports bettors, the Stampeders have faded slightly to 7.5-point home favourites on the CFL odds since opening as 8-point chalk. The total has remained unchanged since opening at 49.5, with the betting action evenly split between the OVER and UNDER.
CFL Odds and Betting
Friday night’s matchup at McMahon Stadium marks the second and final regular season meeting between these teams, and the Ti-Cats’ first visit to Calgary since 2019. The Stampeders eked out a narrow 33-30 win when they visited Hamilton back in Week 2, extending a run of domination in head-to-head action that has seen them knock off the Tiger-Cats in 21 of 24 clashes since 2009. That stretch features 12 straight outright victories on home turf, including against the spread victories in three of their past four. Indeed, Calgary has been virtually unbeatable when facing Hamilton as a home favourite, winning outright in 17 straight. However, they have covered in just two of eight clashes with Hamilton when pegged as home favourites by six or more points.
While their first meeting of the season was a high-scoring affair, the UNDER paid out in four of their previous six tilts, with the total topping 43 just twice in their previous five.
Hamilton Tiger-Cats
It wasn’t pretty, but the Ti-Cats achieved the bare minimum required to preserve their playoff hopes in last week’s win over the freefalling Riders. The team leaned heavily on the foot of kicker Seth Small, who powered a comeback effort with four straight field goals to seal the win. However, there was little more for the Hamilton faithful to get excited about in this contest.
Quarterback Dane Evans continued to struggle to find the mark, connecting on just 11 of 24 pass attempts for 214 yards, no scores, and two picks. While Evans managed to get Hamilton on the board with a first-quarter 1-yard touchdown run, he has otherwise been ineffective apart from a stunning five-touchdown performance in an upset win over Winnipeg last month, which is increasingly looking like an aberration.
Calgary Stampeders
The Stampeders have shown steady improvement on both sides of the ball during the 4-1-0 run that leaves them deadlocked with BC in the battle for second place in the West, and home field in the first round of the playoffs. Calgary slammed the door on Toronto last time out two weeks ago, allowing the Argonauts offence to penetrate their 40-yard line on just one single play in a drive that ended with a missed field goal.
The Stampeders’ dominance in their 29-2 win over Toronto builds on an equally stingy performance a week earlier while spanking the Lions 25-11. Overall, the Stampeders have allowed just one touchdown over their past two games, which came in garbage time, and have allowed an average of just 209 passing yards per game over that stretch.
