This game literally includes the opposite ends of the CFL standings. The Calgary Stampeders are sitting high above the league with an 11-2 record, while the lonely Montreal Alouettes are playing out the season at 3-11. Oddsmakers have made the visiting Stampeders massive 12.5-point favourites.

Betting Analysis

These two teams played earlier in the season (July 21) in Calgary, with the Stampeders handling the Als a 25-8 loss. The Montreal duo of Matthew Shiltz and Drew Willy combined for 167 yards of passing in the loss, and a total of one point in the first 30 minutes of the game. Both quarterbacks are no longer with the organization. The Stampeders enter this game winners of two straight against Montreal, and six out of their last 10 games. Surprisingly, the Stampeders are 1-7 against the spread (ATS) in their last eight games against the Alouettes, and in their last eight games head-to-head the under has be in play seven times (7-2 ATS).

Calgary Stampeders

The Stampeders keep rolling through the regular season, now winners of two straight, and four out of their last five games entering this one with the Montreal Alouettes. In their last game, the Stampeders walked all over the Argos 38-16 (covering 13.5 points) with quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell leading the way. Mitchell threw for over 300 yards (307 yards) for the fifth time this season along with two touchdowns. Running back Don Jackson returned to the lineup and in his first game since Sept. 3, carried the ball 11 times for 54 yards.

But there was some bad news on the injury front, as the Stampeders announced they have lost yet another receiver in Reggie Begelton in what appears to be season-ending. He joins an injured receiver list of Kamar Jorden, DaVarius Daniels, and Eric Rogers. In his place the Stampeders continue to find new additions for their receiving core, signing former Blue Bomber and 2013 Most Outstanding rookie Chris Matthews to the contract. Matthews went to the NFL and played a total of 25 games for the Seahawks and Ravens from 2014-2017.

Montreal Alouettes

Although he was only 9-of-16 for 168 yards and two touchdowns, media and fans alike are calling Johnny Manziel’s effort last week against the Saskatchewan Roughriders his best CFL start to date. Manziel is starting to get a better feel for the CFL, but the Alouettes are still struggling at 3-11 and are well out of the playoffs. There are eight offensive categories at the CFL website, the Als are last in five of them. They have been badly outscored 436-247 for a -189 plus/minus number. The franchise has not made the playoffs since the 2014 season, and is 19-49 since that season. With three games remaining after this one, the upcoming home and home series with the 3-10 Toronto Argonauts are the fan bases only consolation.
