RedBlacks vs. Alouettes Prediction: CFL Week 13 Point Spread, Odds
Lagging just two points back of first-place Toronto in the East Division standings in the wake of last week’s narrow 29-28 win over Hamilton, the Alouettes address both current and future concerns with a flurry of transactions that bring certainty to the depth chart under center and address concerns on the defensive line. The RedBlacks visit Montreal in the wake of last week’s 25-18 upset victory in Edmonton that extends the squad’s current road win streak to two games.
Despite garnering 61% of the betting action, the Alouettes have faded to 4.5-point favourites since opening as 6-point chalk, while the RedBlacks have improved to +164 moneyline underdogs. Buoyed by 66% of sports bettors backing the OVER, the total has climbed to 49.5 since opening at 48.
CFL Week 13 Odds and Betting
Friday night’s matchup at Percival Molson Stadium marks the second of four regular season clashes between these East Division rivals. The Alouettes hold a clear edge in recent head-to-head action, claiming victory in seven of nine dates with Ottawa. However, have earned the win in two of their past three road dates with Montreal, capped by a 19-18 upset victory as huge 11-point underdogs in their most recent visit last November. The Alouettes drew first blood in this year’s season, rolling to a 40-33 road win in Week 7 that really wasn’t as close as the score indicates. That contest ended a three-game run for the UNDER in totals betting when these teams meet. However, low scoring has been a recurring theme when the RedBlacks visit Montreal, with the UNDER going 9-1-0 over their past 10. Home teams have also been a big disappointment to sports bettors when these teams meet, failing to cover in 13 straight contests.
Ottawa RedBlacks
A steady defensive effort and a relatively fast start by the offence proved key as the RedBlacks rolled to a 25-18 win in Edmonton last week. Ottawa racked up 20 points before recess, marking their best first-half offensive performance so far this season, and limited the Elks to just three total points over two drives inside the RedBlacks’ 30-yard line over the first three quarters. Of course, it is important to keep last week’s win in perspective, considering it came against an Elks’ squad that hasn’t tallied a home victory in almost three years. In addition, the RedBlacks passing duo of Nick Arbuckle and Caleb Evans failed to connect on a scoring pass for a third straight week, and may struggle further against Montreal’s third-ranked pass defence.
Montreal Alouettes
The Alouettes made a flurry of personnel changes in the wake of last week’s narrow win over Hamilton. The team shipped high-priced veteran quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. to the injury-ravaged BC Lions in exchange for a draft pick. The Alouettes felt confident in making that move after watching Trevor Harris rack up 382 passing yards and three scores to seal the victory over the Tiger-Cats. Harris has looked increasingly comfortable in the role as starting pivot, tossing for nine scores over his past six outings, including a 341-yard, two-touchdown performance in Montreal’s win in Ottawa in July. The team also shored up their defence by acquiring defensive end Thomas Costigan from Edmonton, who has tallied 14 tackles and three sacks this season.
