Blue Bombers vs. Elks Prediction: CFL Week 10 Point Spread, Odds
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers got their statement win at home in Week 9. Even though it technically came against the BC Lions’ backup QB, a 50-14 final sends a message. On the other side of the field, the Edmonton Elks hope that some decisions made during the bye week will translate to positivity.
As expected, the CFL odds place Winnipeg as heavy favourites at -12.0. The total is currently set at 45.0.
CFL Odds and Betting
Thursday marks the second time the Blue Bombers and Elks butt heads. The first came only a few weeks ago on July 20 when they tussled in Manitoba. The game was relatively close in the first half, but the Bombers eventually pulled away for a 28-14 victory.
Incidentally, that 14-point margin wasn’t enough for the hosts to cover the spread (-15). That explains why Winnipeg is only 5-3 ATS for the season. In fact, the club is only 3-3 in its last six games. While the over has connected in two of their three most recent games, keep in mind that Edmonton scores very few points.
The visiting Elks don’t have much to be prideful of this season, save for the two times they covered the spread, thus putting them at 2-6 on the season. Such is the over’s tally in Elks games. It should be noted that not only is a raw QB starting this game (Tre Ford), but the club could be without WR Eugene Lewis, who has been limited in practice.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers
Merciless. Empathic. Dominating. All those superlatives and more could describe how impressive the Winnipeg Blue Bombers were in Week 9 at home to the Lions, obliterating them 50-14.
It was one of those times when the stars aligned for something like this to happen. Besides BC going into action with a decent backup quarterback in Dane Evans, Winnipeg remembered the 30-6 thumping they suffered at home earlier in the season. They made sure a similar outcome didn’t repeat itself and sent the Lions back to Vancouver with their tails sagging between their legs. 576 total yards to 233, 447 passing yards to 170, and 24 first downs to 17. By the time the clubs went back to the dressing rooms for a break, it was already 27-4 for the Bombers. Winnipeg only made things worse in the third and fourth quarters.
Both Dalton Schoen and Kenny Lawler Jr. caught for over 100 yards (137 and 200, respectively). Schoen scored twice, Lawler Jr. once, and Nic Demski once.
Edmonton Elks
Edmonton utilized its week off to not only practice and nurse wounds but make some lineup and staff changes as well. Jarious Jackson, formerly the QB coach, is now the offensive coordinator. Under centre Thursday will be Tre Ford, replacing Taylor Cornelius.
At 0-8 and most of the losses as lopsided as they are, changes were of the essence. It would be foolish to think the 2023 season can morph into something great, but perhaps positive results can be salvaged that would progress into a better 2024. The last time fans saw the Elks was a fortnight ago against the BC Lions. In a funny way, maybe playing the Elks was partially what sunk BC when they had to go to Winnipeg the next week. Edmonton was shambolic, losing 27-0 and showing about as little on offence as an ensemble that calls itself a professional sports team can. It remains to be seen what Ford can do at the QB position, but from Week 8 alone, most people have seen enough of Cornelius.
The Elks have scored the least amount of points, gained the least amount of yards, have the least amount of takeaways and the second-most giveaways.
