The Alouettes were 3-0 vs. the Redblacks last season with the lone game in Ottawa finishing 24-12 in favour of Montreal in Week 16. Alouettes quarterback Cody Fajardo, now with Edmonton, completed 16 of 27 pass attempts for 226 yards and scored a rushing touchdown. Kicker Jose Maltos hit field goals from 17, 13 and 30 yards.
Ottawa was missing several starters injured and then lost starting quarterback Dru Brown to an injury late in the second quarter. Brown was 8-for-16 for 69 yards with two interceptions before Jeremiah Masoli finished the game going 17-for-26 in passing for 218 yards and one touchdown. The Redblacks had 11 penalties for 137 yards. They have lost eight straight in the series, with the last win by a score of 24-18 in Montreal in October 2022.
These teams split two 2025 preseason games vs. one another, each winning on the road. On the updated odds to win the East Division entering Week 2, Montreal is +220 and Ottawa +260.
Montreal Alouettes
Montreal was a 5.5-point home favourite Week 1 vs. defending Grey Cup champion Toronto and won 28-10 in a rematch of the 2024 Eastern Final. QB Davis Alexander, who earned the starting job after winning all four of his starts in 2024, completed 19 of his 26 passes for 205 yards, a touchdown and an interception, adding 50 rushing yards on four attempts.
In his return from major injury, wideout Tyson Philpot caught four passes for 48 yards and a touchdown. The Alouettes’ defence dominated in holding the Argos to 276 total yards, forcing two interceptions and a fumble, with Isaac Adeyemi-Berglund returning the fumble for a score.
Montreal linebacker Tyrice Beverette was named the CFL’s top defender from Week 1 as he had four tackles and an interception over 50 total defensive snaps while also recording a 87.7 grade on 23 coverage snaps.
Montreal is 9-4 ATS in its past 13 road games.
Ottawa RedBlacks
Will Ottawa quarterback Dru Brown play? He has been limited in practice this week with a hip injury after the completing 34-of-41 passing attempts for 413 yards and two touchdowns in the 31-26 loss at Saskatchewan in Week 1. Brown nearly led a fourth-quarter rally from down 31-17. Matt Shiltz would likely start if Brown can’t go with Dustin Crum as the No. 2.
Wideout Eugene Lewis had a TD catch in the season-opening loss, his ninth straight game with at least one – the first eight games coming with Edmonton. Another on Friday would tie the CFL record of 10 consecutive games with a TD grab set by Hall of Famer Terry Evanshen in 1968.
Lewis was the East Division’s outstanding player in 2022 after recording 91 receptions for 1,303 yards and 10 TDs with Montreal. Offensive linemen Peter Godber and Zack Pelehos missed the opener injured.
Ottawa is 1-7 ATS in its past eight games.
