French Open Women’s Final Predictions: Can Maja Chwalinska Complete Her Historic Cinderella Run?
Before Maja Chwalinska did what she is doing at the French Open this fortnight, Emma Raducanu rolled all the way to the 2021 U.S. Open title as a qualifier. And that’s it – that’s the whole list.
Standing in Chwalinska’s way of what would be a most improbable title is Andreeva, who is much more of a well-known commodity despite being just 19 years old. The Russian is also playing in her first major final, so we know a first-time slam champion will be crowned on Saturday afternoon in Paris. But who will it be?
Let’s take a look at the women’s final matchup at Roland Garros and discuss the best bets to make.
French Open women’s singles final – Mirra Andreeva vs. Maja Chwalinska best bet: Andreeva -1.5 sets (-150)
Is Chwalinska finally going to hit the wall, or will she continue her historic run en route to a shocking Grand Slam title? Perhaps she will do something in between, like accounting herself well but ultimately succumbing to a superior opponent in a competitive match? There is no denying that nine matches represent a large sample size, so it’s hard to argue that this result is a complete fluke.
Yes, Chwalinska has played nine matches at this French Open because at No. 114 in the rankings, she had to qualify simply to get into the main draw. Full credit to her for winning so many matches on such a big stage, but it also has to be said that Chwalinska has not defeated any opponent seeded better than No. 22. That good fortune ends in the form of Andreeva, who is the eighth seed at this tournament. Don’t be surprised if the favourite triumphs with relative ease on Saturday.
French Open women’s singles final – Mirra Andreeva vs Maja Chwalinska prediction: Under 20.5 games (-120)
This obviously correlates well with the first play. If Andreeva takes care of business in straight sets, she should be able to seal the deal in no more than 20 games, and you have to like her chances of doing so. Andreeva boasts a sparkling 21-3 record on clay this spring with losses only to Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina and Marta Kostyuk. In a rematch with Kostyuk – who had been a perfect 17-0 on clay in 2026 – on quarterfinal Thursday, Andreeva cruised 6-1, 6-3.
The teenager has dropped just one set this entire fortnight, to Marina Bassols Ribera – whom she promptly destroyed 6-1, 6-1 over the final two sets. Only one other set has been more competitive than 6-3 and no other set has been closer than 6-4. To say that Andreeva is in dominant form would be an understatement. It’s also worth noting that Chwalinka looked slightly less than 100 percent in the semifinals due to an apparent leg issue. That won’t help matters for the underdog.
French Open women’s singles final – Mirra Andreeva vs. Maja Chwalinska pick: Chwalinska Under 0.5 aces (-120)
Chwalinksa is not exactly an ace machine. In fact, the 24-year-old has struck only three aces in nine matches throughout this French Open. For those counting, that equates to 0.05 aces per service game. The qualifier has not recorded an ace since round three against Maria Sakkari – the only opponent whom Chwalinska has aced even once. There is no reason to think that she is going to get one by Andreeva.
The world No. 8 is one of the toughest players to ace. Over the past 52 weeks, Andreeva has been aced on just 2.5 percent of her return points – the sixth-best mark among players in the top 50. She has been aced only twice through six rounds at Roland Garros.
