Vancouver Whitecaps vs. Houston Dynamo MLS Preview and Prediction

Vancouver is currently No. 2 in the conference standings with 45 points, whereas Houston is on the outside looking in when it comes to playoff position. The Dynamo are No. 12 in the West with 28 points.

This marks the second head-to-head matchup of the season between these two teams. They previously faced each other on July 16 in Houston, where Vancouver cruised to a 3-0 victory.

Vancouver is a -145 favourite to win on the MLS odds, while Houston is a +340 underdog and a draw is listed at +290.

Vancouver Whitecaps vs. Houston Dynamo and Betting Trends

With Vancouver way ahead in the MLS standings and also owning home-field advantage, it’s no surprise to see this club favoured in a big way on the three-way money line. The Whitecaps are priced at -145, while the Dynamo are +340 underdogs, and a draw checks in at +290. The game total is set at 2.5, with the over juiced at -145 compared to a +100 price on the under.

High-scoring affairs have been the norm for these two clubs. Across all competitions, 11 of Houston’s last 15 outings have resulted in at least three goals. Five of Vancouver’s last six MLS contests and eight of their last 10 have produced three goals or more. The ‘Caps have not played a game with fewer than two goals since June 29.

Houston Dynamo

Houston has been playing decent soccer this summer. Dating back to its final game during June, head coach Ben Olsen’s squad has two wins, two losses, and one draw. Leading scorer Ezequiel Ponce (seven goals in 2025) has found the back of the net three times in the past six outings.

Olsen is one win away from 150 coaching victories in Major League Soccer. He ranks third among active MLS coaches in that department and seventh all-time. The Dynamo signed Brazilian central defender Antonio Carlos from Brazilian club Fluminense FC earlier this month. The 32-year-old previously played in MLS with Orlando, scoring four goals and recording five assists in 105 appearances.

Vancouver Whitecaps

It’s Müller Mania in Vancouver. The Whitecaps announced the signing of German legend Thomas Müller last week, and he arrived on Wednesday in time to make his MLS debut this weekend. The 35-year-old is a World Cup champion (2014), and he also helped his country place third in 2010.

Even if Müller might be somewhat past his prime, he should be able to provide a top-flight scoring punch that Vancouver needs alongside Brian White (12 goals). Nobody else on the roster has more than five goals. The home side has recently been without injured players Ranko Veselinovic, Ryan Gauld, and Ali Ahmed. A ruptured Achilles’ tendon will sideline Sam Adekube for the remainder of the year.

MLS Prediction: Who Will Win Vancouver Whitecaps vs. Houston Dynamo?

Vancouver is not only the more talented team on paper but also has the benefit of playing at the friendly confines of BC Place Stadium. As such, there is no other way to look except in the direction of the Whitecaps.

Although the ‘Caps have been outstanding defensively in 2025, the offence may be what gets them across the finish line on Sunday. After all, the Dynamo have been held scoreless in just two of their last 14 MLS games. Vancouver probably isn’t playing well enough to beat Houston as badly as it did in July, but the home team should be able to take care of business – possibly by a 2-1 margin.
