Tyler Toffoli Traded to New Jersey Devils
It was only a matter of time before it happened. Tyler Toffoli had recently told the Calgary Flames that he wanted a change of scenery. On Tuesday he got his wish as the Flames sent him to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for centre Yegor Sharangovich and the 80th overall pick in the upcoming Entry Draft.

Tyler Toffoli to Devils, Sharangovich to Flames
Despite the post-season press conference in which Tyler Toffoli expressed his appreciation of the team and city, it became known to the public that after Darryl Sutter’s firing, he wanted out of Calgary. Toffoli, a Stanley Cup winner earlier in his career with the Los Angeles Kings, led the club in points last season with 73 in 82 games – 34 goals and 39 assists. He was also a +16.
Toffoli is now a New Jersey Devil, helping a young club that ascended the Eastern Conference standings in 2022-2023, finishing 52-22-8 and reaching the second round of the playoffs.
In return, the Flames receive forward Yegor Sharangovich and the 80th pick in the draft. Sharangovich, a much young player than Toffoli, has spent his first three seasons in the NHL with the New Jersey Devils. He tallied 30 points last season – 13 goals and 17 assists.
There had been attempts to keep Toffoli with the Flames, but contract extension negotiations did not bear fruit. This is the first big move by new Flames GM Craig Conroy in a summer that promises a lot of change in Calgary.
