Las Vegas NHL Season Ticket Drive Already Halfway To Goal
Well, maybe an National Hockey League team in Las Vegas is a lot closer to a reality than even its biggest supporters could have imagined.
Just 36 hours after NHL commissioner Gary Bettman helped kick off Vegas’ season ticket drive, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that the ownership group has already received half of the 10,000 season ticket deposits it had set as its goal.
“All the seats in all the sections are selling really well. They’re pretty even distributed,” leading investor Bill Foley said in a prepared statement.
“We’re off to a good start. We hope to see the Las Vegas community rally around this great cause and continue to buy deposits.”
Making those deposits flexible to appeal to all types of fans has been a smart move. Fans can deposit as little as $150 towards season tickets (about 10 percent of their total cost) or as much as $900 and choose their seats at www.vegaswantshockey.com.
So far, the Vegas group is pleased with the start, but Bettman stopped short of guaranteeing anything when he was in town Tuesday.
“While I have nothing new to add to what I’ve said and repeated countless times since we gave Bill permission last year – I have no promises to make today – I do wish Bill and the people of Nevada good luck in this endeavor,” Bettman said. “We will certainly be interested to see the result.”
It’s nice to have some big names already supporting the cause too. Canadian poker pro Daniel Negreanu, Boxer Floyd “Money” Mayweather, and UFC president Dana White are just a few celebrities who have already ponied up for season tickets.
