Biggest talking point
With only one playoff appearance in the last five seasons, the Raptors will be expected to take a step forward. That’s especially true in a weakened Eastern Conference that will see the Celtics without Jayson Tatum and the the Pacers without Tyrese Haliburton.
Brandon Ingram will finally suit up in the regular season, joining a core of Scottie Barnes, RJ Barrett, Gradey Dick, Immanuel Quickley and others. On paper this team will be expected to at least make the play-in tournament, if not the playoffs.
Biggest strength
Versatility.
Barnes, Barrett and Ingram bring proven consistency to the court and you can expected elevated production from the team with the addition of Ingram, who can easily drop 25 points a night.
Biggest concern
Health.
Particularly the health of Barnes, who is in the first year of a five-year contract extension worth up to $270 million, making him the highest paid player in franchise history. Barnes needs to be a bit more efficient and accurate to help this team take the next step.
Bold prediction
Raptors grab a top-six seed in the Eastern Conference and avoid the play-in tournament altogether.
Again, this is a solid team on paper, so I see no reason why they can’t finish top-six in the East, especially if Barnes takes the next step to becoming a star. With Eastern Conference teams dealing with a slew of injuries to star players, there’s room for Toronto to make the playoffs.
Fantasy facts
The Raptors will be starting four players who have averaged more than five assists per game in Barnes, Barrett, Ingram and Quickley. That means this could be a really dangerous, free flowing offence if put together correctly.
It also means no one individual player will have strong assist lines, so keep that in mind when you’re looking at player props and fantasy picks.
