What are the Odds Georges St-Pierre Makes UFC Comeback?

What are the odds Georges St-Pierre will end his MMA hiatus to come back for a fight at UFC 200?

Georges St-Pierre stepped away from the Ultimate Fighting Championship at the top of his game, relinquishing his welterweight belt after successfully defending his title for a ninth time in a decision victory over Johny Hendricks at UFC 167.

Since then barely a week has gone by without rumours of GSP returning to the octagon popping up. So, is there anything behind this buzz about the French Canadian making a comeback?

Georges St-Pierre UFC Comeback Odds

GSP odds

Well, were there’s smoke, there’s fire and it looks as though the possibility of GSP coming back is heating up. He attended UFC 196 in Las Vegas and met with the media – even though he wouldn’t shed any more light on his future. However, UFC president Dana White did admit that the company has discussions with St-Pierre about returning to fight at UFC 200, which is held at the end of Fight Week on July 9. Fellow Canadian Rory MacDonald also weighed in the subject last week.

“[St-Pierre is] so secretive,” MacDonald said on the MMA Hour. “It’s hard to get a read on it, you know? But he’s training and he’s doing good, so I don’t know. I think it really comes down to the numbers.”

“I think he could come back if the right amount of money is on the table and the right fight is there for him,” MacDonald added. “That’s my guess. But I try not to ask Georges about that stuff, because that’s pretty much anything anyone ever asks him about.”

UFC and MMA Betting Odds

It’s a question journalists are getting tired of asking, just as GSP is undoubtedly tired of answering, but MacDonald is right that the fit would have to be perfect. Would a title shot against Robbie Lawler be too much too soon? That fight would make a lot of sense, but you would have to wonder if GSP at 34 years old and coming off a two-year hiatus would be up for that challenge. UFC odds have GSP at +1000 to win the welterweight title in 2016.

What about Johny Hendricks? Maybe GSP wants to put a stamp on his last fight after some deemed it a questionable decision.

Then there’s Conor McGregor. The UFC says he’ll be on the UFC 200 card but hasn’t announced his opponent yet. If the Ultimate Fighting Championship is purely looking to smash every pay-per-view record ever, that’s the fight to make.
