Former UFC champion Georges St-Pierre is happy to finally have some time to himself and doesn’t regret his decision to vacate the welterweight title last month, but he isn’t ruling out a return to the octagon either.

“I’m 32 years old and this is the first time I have my Christmas with my family,” St-Pierre recently told reporters. “I spent some time, but I never really had free time, total free time like I did [this holiday]. It was time for me to do it. I’m very happy I did it and I don’t regret any of it.”

GSP formally announced he was stepping away from his MMA career last month during a conference call with UFC president Dana White and reporters. That came just a couple of weeks after he defended his title in a controversial split-decision win over Johny Hendricks at UFC 167.

“I’m taking a break now,” St-Pierre told reporters. “Because I’m an obsessive guy, I give myself a challenge which automatically will mean me working on it to obtain it. So right now I take a break. I don’t give myself any preference, you know. There is a chance I will come back.”

If we have seen the last of St-Pierre in the octagon, he goes out on a 12-match winning streak, with his last loss coming to Matt Sera way back in 2007.

“You know, when you do something for a long time, you have a lot of pressure,” St-Pierre added. “People don’t realize how much pressure I have. It’s a lot of expectation. You take a lot of risk. You get so nervous because you care about it.”

In the meantime, life goes on in arguably the UFC’s most competitive weight class. Hendricks, now the top-ranked welterweight, gets another shot at the title at UFC 171 on March 15 against Robbie Lawler.
