MLB Report: Boston Red Sox interested in Bo Bichette
If Bo Bichette leaves the Toronto Blue Jays in free agency, he might be sticking around the AL East.
Here’s what you need to know.
Bo Bichette
The AL East rival Boston Red Sox are believed to be interested in signing Bichette, according to Red Sox beat reporter Rob Bradford.
Bradford also made the connection between Bichette and Red Sox general manager Craig Breslow, who was Bichette’s teammate in 2018 with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays.
The 27-year-old Bichette is a free agent for the first time in his career after seven big league seasons. An Orlando native, Bichette hit .311 with 18 home runs and 94 RBIs in 139 games in 2025.
Bichette missed the last month of the regular season with a knee injury and didn’t return to the lineup until Game 1 of the World Series. In the seven-game series, he had eight hits, including a three-run home run in Game 7.
While primarily used as a shortstop throughout his career, Bradford says Boston could move Bichette to third base if they lose free agent Alex Bergman. The Red Sox could also move Marcelo Mayer to third and have Bichette play second base, where he played in the World Series.
World Series odds
Regardless of Bichette leaving or staying, the Blue Jays are poised to be major players in the free agent market. Toronto is expected to focus on improving the bullpen and adding more pitching depth.
The Jays are also linked to the top free agent hitter, Kyle Tucker, who is estimated to fetch anywhere from $300-$400 million. Signing Tucker would essentially mean Toronto is out on Bichette.
Despite pushing the Dodgers to extra innings in Game 7 of the World Series, the Blue Jays are listed at +1600 to win the 2026 World Series, the seventh-shortest odds. Toronto has the fifth-shortest odds at +1000 to repeat as American League champions.
Curiously, the Red Sox have longer odds than Toronto to win the World Series at +1800, but Boston has shorter odds to win the American League at +800.
