Arizona Baseball Spring Training – The Cactus League

The Cactus League is the younger of the Spring Training Leagues. It was founded fifty odd years ago, when baseball started to cross the Rocky mountains and open up America. The Cleveland Indians and the (then) New York Giants were the first; the Yankees joined in the fifties and the rest is history.

The Cactus League is based in Arizona and, like the Grapefruit League, has fifteen teams competing, irrespective of whether they’re in the American or the National League. It’s all about geography – the East Coast teams play in Florida, the West coast teams in Arizona and it’s either/or for the Midwest.
