The Canadian Grand Prix is an annual F1 racing event that has been held since 1961; becoming part of the Formula One World Championship in 1967. Initially, the race took place at Mosport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario, then, after Formula One took over, the event alternated between Mosport Park and Circuit Mont-Tremblant in Quebec.
Due to safety concerns, the race moved permanently to Mosport Park after 1971. In 1978, similar safety issues at Mosport led to the race relocating to its current venue, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, on Notre Dame Island in Montreal, Quebec. The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve has hosted the event ever since, becoming a well-established part of the Formula One calendar.
