Golf Betting Odds at Dubai, Pebble Beach
Frank Doyle previews two major golf competitions on either side of the globe this weekend – the Dubai Desert Classic and the Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
The European Tour has been eclipsed by the PGA Tour in recent years, as the all the top European players play in the States rather than their home tour anymore. But for the first time in quite some years the European Tour gets prime billing, and the reason why is simple – the top three players in the world are in Dubai getting ready to play in the Desert Classic.
Tiger Woods has made the flight and he’s not even the favorite in the golf odds. US PGA Champion Martin Kaymer is the opening line favorite, followed by Woods and then by Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, a winner here in 2009.
Woods has won twice in Dubai, in 2008 and 2006, but past performance is no longer any indicator of future growth in the case of Tiger Woods. Torrey Pines was one of Woods’ favorite ever courses, but he finished tied 44th at La Jolla, after two awful over-par rounds on Saturday and Sunday last.
If not Woods, then, who? Well, World Number 1 Lee Westwood is certainly worth a bet at a value price of +1000. Westwood is now the miserable standard-bearer of the “Best Player Yet to Win a Major” title but his game is solid and he was a runner up at Dubai last year. He’s the man to watch.
Back in the States, the Pebble-Beach Pro-Am is on this weekend, over its usual location at the three courses of Pebble Beach itself, Spyglass Hill and the Monterey Peninsula Country Club. Dustin Johnson won the last two at Pebble Beach and he’s a deserving ante-post for the three-peat.
Johnson is followed closely in the golf betting by Phil Mickelson, a two time winner in the past, and the field contains another previous winner in VJ Singh. VJ finished in the top five at Phoenix last week – could he build on that in Pebble Beach?
There are a host of extra bet types for both tournaments this weekend, as there are every weekend – group betting, matchups, big guns, top ten finish, best nationality and more. Get all the golf betting action right here with Sports Interaction!
