Montreal will have the home ice advantage when they host the Penguins at the Bell Centre this Saturday night. Paul Byron, Joel Armia, Brendan Gallagher and Charles Hudon all found the back of the net for the Canadiens while Carey Priced turned aside 21 of the 22 shots he faced in the first meeting. Will lightning strike twice for Montreal? Or will Pittsburgh respond with a win in the rematch? Here is a closer look at the matchup between the Penguins and the Canadiens.

Penguins vs Canadiens Betting Analysis

Pittsburgh responded following the loss to Montreal with a 4-2 win over the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday night. The Penguins have yet to play on the road this season. Pittsburgh went 17-20-4 on the road a year ago. The Penguins swept the season series between these teams a year ago including a 5-3 win in their lone meeting at the Bell Centre.

The Canadiens were actually a much better team at home than on the road a year ago with an 18-14-9 record at the Bell Centre. Montreal failed to score a goal in its home opener. It will be interesting to see if they bounce back in the scoring department after scoring five goals against Pittsburgh in their first meeting.

Pittsburgh Penguins

The Penguins offence clicked in their 4-2 win over the Golden Knights on Thursday night. Phil Kessel exploded for a hat trick while Evgeni Malkin registered three points. Meanwhile, Casey DeSmith looked good in his season debut, turning aside 35 of the 37 shots that he faced. DeSmith will likely be back between the pipes against the Canadiens on Saturday night. Pittsburgh looked slow against Montreal in their first meeting but they won’t be caught off guard when these teams meet again.

The Penguins had their way with the Canadiens in their three meetings last season. Expect them to bounce back with a strong performance in their first road game of the season on Saturday night.

Montreal Canadiens

Montreal followed up a five-goal performance against Pittsburgh with zero goals in a 3-0 shutout loss to the Los Angeles Kings in its home opener. The Canadiens lack of firepower up front means the team will need to continue to rely on its depth for goals. That could become a problem at times this season when they play tougher opponents.

Carey Price didn’t look great against the Kings with three goals allowed on 29 shots. Montreal needs its star netminder to be its best player every game this season in order to remain competitive. Price got the best of the Penguins in their first meeting but don’t expect him to keep them to one goal again in the rematch. Pittsburgh will be eager to avenge their loss to the Canadiens a week ago. Look for the Penguins offence to click in a convincing road win.
