Bachelorette Finale: Ashley Hebert Gets Engaged to JP Rosenbaum
On the season finale of The Bachelorette, Ashley Hebert had a few crosses to bare. After guys began dropping out like flies, Ashely was fearful that no one really liked her – and was self-concious about not being up to the standard the guys had wanted. Then, when she finally whittled the 25 guys down to just two, her ruthless older sister, obviously trying to maximize her air time, pooh-poohed her potential Long Island construction worker husband after a brief 15-minute encounter.
However, after some tears were shed, her big sister’s thumbs down didn’t stop Ashley from choosing JP Rosenbaum anyway.
The runner-up, Ben Flajnik, didn’t take rejection too well, however. Seemingly oblivious to the sad look on Ashley’s face, Ben dropped down to one knee and proposed, saying, “Every second I spend with you makes me fall deeper in love with you. I want to thank you for allowing me to feel completely and utterly vulnerable and open with you,” while the resounding squeals of uncomfortable viewers rang out across North America.
Ben presented Ashley with a sparkling Neil Lane ring and she covered it up with her hands and tried to awkwardly pull him from his kneeling position.
“Wow. I didn’t see this one coming,” Ben muttered through gritted teeth.
“So I guess this is it,” he said. He turned to walk away and Ashley impotently tried to chase him while throwing adjectives at him that explain what a “great guy” she though he was. “Interesting” was one word she bumbled, which, if it wasn’t such a pathetic moment, would have been kind of funny.
“I don’t need you to sugarcoat it,” Ben said walking out. “JP is a wonderful guy. I’m sure you’ll have a nice life together.”
After she got over Ben’s anger, it was finally Ashley’s time to admit to JP her love for him.
Smiling at JP, Ashley gushed, “Today is the reason why I went through all the good times and the bad times, and I’ve been wanting to tell you how much I loved you for so long now. You mean the world to me and I do not want to be with anyone else forever.”
“I’m so in love with you. You’re the one. You’re it,” J.P. said, getting down on one knee as he presented her with an engagement ring. “Ashley, will you marry me?”
According to the After the Final Rose special, Ashley and JP are still madly in love. Ashley is planning to move to New York, where she can be close to JP.
