The NHL saw fit to schedule a pair of Global Series events this season. After opening the campaign in early October in Czechia with the Buffalo Sabres and New Jersey Devils, Finland hosts the Florida Panthers and Dallas Stars. Finnish fans get to witness plenty of talent on the ice given that Florida is the defending Stanley Cup champion and Dallas was a conference finalist a season ago.

The Panthers took Friday’s game in a goal festival, 6-4.

Our NHL odds give the Panthers the edge to sweep the two-game series. They’re -1.5 on the puck line and -120 on the moneyline.

Stars vs. Panthers NHL Betting Odds

While it’s easy to see that Florida leads the current regular season series 1-0 over Dallas, they’ve also won three in a row overall dating back to last season.

Of note, the winning side in the last eight meetings has scored at least four goals. Even that only happened once. The other seven final scores saw the winners net at least five times.

The Stars may be 7-3 in the standings, but they’re only 5-5 against the spread this season. In fact, Dallas is only 3-4 versus the puck line in its past seven contests. Seeing them concede six times on Friday was an eye-opener given that, as a unit, the Stars’ goalies have a 1.89 goals-against average this season. Jake Oettinger himself has a 1.84 GAA.

A similar story can be told of the Panthers. Their 8-3-1 tally in the Atlantic Division looks mighty fine, but ATS they’re a .500 club, sitting at 6-6. However, it wasn’t long ago that Florida sported a 2-6 ATS record, so they’re on a heater these days. Say hello to the NHL’s co-leader in points, Sam Reinhart. That comes courtesy of nine goals and 10 helpers.

Dallas Stars

Friday’s result should not necessarily be a cause for concern for Stars fans. The team has depth to spare and had defeated solid opposition earlier this season (Boston and Edmonton).

That said, the first chapter of the Global Series did not go according to plan at all. Dallas looked about as bad as they have in a long time. Oettinger wasn’t making stops, the defence wasn’t clearing the crease, and before they knew it the contest was done and dusted. A couple of players did get on the board for the first time in 2024-25, with Esa Lindell and Mavrik Bourque earning their first tallies. Crafty veteran Tyler Seguin got arguably the cleverest marker of the match when he shot from behind the Florida net and had the puck bounced off Sergei Bobrovsky and in. That made it 2-1 for Florida at the time.

If the Stars want to level the terms on Saturday, burgeoning star Wyatt Johnston needs to get going. He’s been pointless for five games.

Florida Panthers

If Friday’s Finnish Global Series is anything to go by, the Panthers are not afraid of anybody. Through only 11 matches, the defending champs have already downed the Bruins (twice), the Golden Knights, and the Rangers. The Stars were just another victim of their awesomeness.

And boy were they flying on Friday. Evan Rodrigues (second) got the Scandinavian party started just 32 seconds into the game with a tip in. Aleksander Barkov (second) doubled the advantage with a lethal wrist shot from the slot. To emphasize their superiority, the Panthers put yet another behind Oettinger on the power play via Anton Lundell (sixth) before the first period was over to make it 3-1.

Reinhart (eighth) showed the purity of his wrister in the middle frame with a beautiful short-handed goal on a penalty kill rush, and he would earn a brace midway through the third to make it a 6-2 game at the time. The defence got a bit lackadaisical near the end, but Florida held on for the 6-4 win.
