Dallas has won three of four games on their road trip so far, but they’ll be looking to bounce back from a disappointing 3-2 loss in Ottawa on Sunday. The Leafs are also looking for a better result after suffering a 3-0 home shutout loss against Vancouver on Saturday, although they still hold on to top spot in the Atlantic Division standings.

Toronto is a slim -120 favourite to win on the NHL odds, with the total set at 6.0.

Stars vs. Maple Leafs NHL Betting Odds

This wraps up the season series after the Maple Leafs won 5-3 in Dallas on December 18. That continued a string of results that has seen Toronto win seven straight games in head-to-head action.

It’s the Stars that come in as the hotter team currently, however. Dallas has won seven of their last eight games overall, while the Leafs have dropped back-to-back ugly performances. Both teams have 27 wins on the season.

Toronto has been the better cover option, going 23-21 against the spread compared to 18-24 ATS for the Stars. Dallas has particularly struggled to cover on the road, posting a 5-15 ATS mark outside of Texas this season.

Both teams trend toward lower scoring games. The total has gone Under in five of Toronto’s last seven games and four of Dallas’ last five.

Dallas Stars

Playing the second half of a back-to-back, the Stars kept up with Ottawa through the first half of the game on Sunday, but ultimately looked tired in the loss. Jason Robertson and Evgenii Dadonov scored for Dallas, while Casey DeSmith allowed three goals on 24 shots. Matt Duchene, who leads the team with 38 points (16G, 22A) in 42 games, was held off the scoresheet for the third game in a row. A big strength for the Stars this season has been their defensive play. Dallas averages the third-fewest goals per game allowed (2.48) in the NHL and they rank fourth in team save percentage (.911).

A lot of the Stars’ success is owed to goaltender Jake Oettinger, who has won five straight games and is expected to start on Tuesday. Oettinger has posted a 21-9-1 record with a 2.35 goals-against average and .910 save percentage. He last played Saturday in Montreal, stopping 30 of 31 shots faced in a 2-1 shootout win.

Toronto Maple Leafs

The Leafs followed up a disappointing loss in Carolina with an even more lacklustre performance against Vancouver on Saturday. Toronto was facing a Canucks team that had lost six of their last seven games going into Saturday, was playing the second half of a back-to-back and didn’t arrive in Toronto until seven hours before puck drop because of travel issues. Captain Auston Matthews and leading scorer Mitch Marner (59 points) both finished minus-one after each went a career-worst minus-six in Carolina.

Joseph Woll is expected to get the start on Tuesday. Woll allowed five goals on 33 shots against Carolina, breaking a personal five-game winning streak. The 26-year-old has been solid overall this year, going 14-7-0 with a 2.58 GAA and .912 SV. He’ll get the majority of the starts until Anthony Stolarz returns from a knee injury that has kept him out of the lineup for just over a month.
