The Ottawa Senators are stumbling, losing their last three games to fall down to a 2-4-0 record on the new season. Their recent match was a 7-5 affair which saw them drop to the Washington Capitals. The Dallas Stars, on the other hand, are entering with a 3-3-1 overall record, though they just lost in overtime against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Which of these teams has the upper hand coming into this matchup?

Senators vs. Stars NHL Betting Odds

The Senators are 6-1 in their last seven games when allowing five or more goals in their previous matchup. They are also just 12-39 straight up in their past 51 games out on the road, something they will have to fight to even out over the next couple of months. Ottawa is 1-4 in their last five games played on a Friday as well.

As for Dallas, they are 5-1 in their past six games when entering the contest as the home favorite and 4-1 in their last five games played on a Friday! However, the Stars are just 1-6 in their last seven games against teams in the Atlantic Division and 1-5 in their past six when allowing five or more goals in the previous contest.

Ottawa Senators

The Senators have a pretty mediocre offense, all things considered. They were ranked 19th in goals scored per game throughout last season and they are in the middle of the pack once again. They average 2.5 goals per game to start the year with Drake Batherson leading the team in total points with six so far.

Defensively, they were horrible last year and it doesn’t seem like that has really improved whatsoever. To make matters worse, Matt Murray won’t be available for this game due to an injury despite turning up his play in recent games. Anton Forsberg is expected to take over the net for Ottawa in this one, he is 1-2-0 on the season with a .855 save percentage and allowing a whopping 4.8 goals per game. If the Senators want to snap this losing skid, Forsberg has to at least keep them in the game a little bit longer.

Dallas Stars

The overtime loss against the Vegas Golden Knights was actually the second straight for Dallas. Their offense just hasn’t gotten it together to start off this year. They have scored three goals or less in every single game this season and average just 1.86 goals per contest. Miro Heiskanen has been the most effective, leading the group with seven points on the year.

Defensively, they are keeping themselves in the game. Braden Holtby has been the starter in four games, holding a 2-2-0 record and a .939 save percentage. Anton Khudobin could see the net tonight instead if anything were to change but has been significantly worse than Holtby, clinging onto a .889 save percentage. Dallas has to get some form of consistency on offense to break this streak.
