Senators vs. Penguins NHL Betting Odds

Monday is the third and final regular-season meeting between the teams, and the winner will claim the series as they split the first two, each winning at home. The game in Pittsburgh was 4-1 in favour of the Penguins on Jan. 20.

Brady Tkachuk (2G, 3A) leads Ottawa with five points in the series, while Tim Stutzle (1G, 2A) and Thomas Chabot (3A) each have three. Cam Talbot started both in net, allowing eight goals on 63 shots, but he’s currently out injured. Sidney Crosby (4A) leads Pittsburgh with four points in the series, while Jake Guentzel, Rickard Rakell and Jason Zucker each have two goals. Tristan Jarry won his outing, allowing one goal on 45 shots, while Casey DeSmith lost his, allowing five goals on 40.

Pittsburgh has won 23 of the past 27 in the series. The over is 6-2 in the previous eight.

Ottawa Senators

This current five-game losing streak hasn’t eliminated Ottawa from wild card contention in the Eastern Conference, but the Sens are now in a major hole to get one of the two spots and it’s quite unlikely. They were beaten 5-4 in a shootout at home by Toronto on Saturday – the opposing team has scored at least five goals in each game of this losing streak. Alexander Kerfoot had the winner in the ninth round of the shootout for the Leafs. Tim Stutzle had a goal and assist and has a six-game points streak where he has totaled 12 points. Brady Tkachuk scored twice and has a three-game goals streak. Winger Mathieu Joseph (3G, 14A) missed his third straight with a lower-body injury. On Sunday, the Sens sent goaltender Kevin Mandolese to AHL Belleville and recalled Dylan Ferguson. Might he start this one over struggling Mads Sogaard? Ottawa is 18-6 in its past 24 vs. the Eastern Conference.

Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh lost its third in a row Saturday, 6-0 at the New York Rangers. Tristan Jarry stopped 13 of 17 shots before being pulled in the second period for Casey DeSmith. Jarry has allowed at least three goals in six of his last seven outings, so it might be DeSmith here. “It was a humbling experience for all of us,” coach Mike Sullivan said of Saturday’s loss. ”At this time of year, you have to have a short memory. We still have control of our destiny.” Pittsburgh still holds down the East’s final wild card spot. Defensemen Jan Ruuta and Jeff Petry were out injured and fellow blueliner Marcus Pettersson was hurt during Saturday’s game. The Penguins are 6-13 in their past 19 after allowing at least five goals in their previous game.
