You don’t get to say this often, but this game is literally the league’s best versus the worst. The Lightning are the pride of the NHL, standing comfortably on top the standings and currently holding a 56 point lead over the lowly Ottawa Senators. To add insult to injury, the Senators don’t even own their first round pick this season, as it was traded to the Avalanche last year.

Senators vs Lightning Betting Analysis

This will be the third (of four) match-ups of the season between these two teams, with Tampa winning the first game back on November 4 4-3 in overtime, and the Sens returning the favour on November 10 with a 6-4 win.

The Lightning are a perfect 6-0 in their last six games playing against teams with a winning percentage under .400. They have also lost just four of 19 games played within the Atlantic division this season.

The over has been in play six consecutive times between these two teams, and also in the last six meetings in Tampa Bay.

Ottawa Senators

The Senators announced some major news on Friday morning, as Head Coach Guy Boucher was fired and replaced by Assistant Coach Marc Crawford on an interim basis. Crawford inherits a team that has lost five in a row, and eight of their last 10 games. He’ll need a program when looking around his bench, as the trade deadline was moving day for former team stars Mark Stone, Matt Duchene, and Ryan Dzingel.

The Senators have had all sorts of problems this season, and the first area is in team defence. Currently the Senators are last in goals against allowing almost four goals against per game (3.73). In addition, they are also last in goals allowed, averaging 36.2 per game.

The penalty kill unit could be in for a long day considering they are ranked 24th in the league at a 77.9 percent rate, but facing the leagues best power-play team in the Lightning, who score at a 29.3 percent rate.

Tampa Bay Lightning

We’re not breaking any news here when we say, the Lightning are simply the best team in hockey. 65 games into the season and the team already has 105 points, just an amazing season for the franchise.

The Bolts however, enter this game coming off a 4-1 setback to the Boston Bruins, a rare loss, and the only one in their last 10 games. The Bruins scored three goals in less than two minutes in the third period to win the game. Back-up Louie Domingue was charged with the loss, and is now 19-5 on the season. Expect starter Andrei Vasilevskiy to make his 41st start of the season. He’s had a Vezina trophy type season, with 29 wins (tied for third in the league), a goals against of 2.28, save percentage of .930 (third in the league), and is tied for first with six shutouts.

Nikita Kucherov leads the Lightning and the NHL with 104 points (30 goals, 74 assists), first in assists, and first in power-play points (41). There isn’t much of an argument to be made that this guy isn’t the Hart/Art Ross trophy winner. He’s been brilliant.
