Red Wings vs. Flames NHL Betting Odds

These two franchises are largely in the same boat as they are still semi-rebuilding and outside the current playoff field in their respective conferences but capable of earning a Wild-Card spot. Detroit, which used to be the marquee franchise in the sport, hasn’t been to the postseason since 2016 and is +700 to get there with no at -1100.

Calgary hasn’t played extra hockey since 2022 and is +210 to get back there with no at -260. The odds are so different even though these clubs have nearly the same amount of points because the Eastern Conference is a lot deeper with really only Buffalo having no shot at the playoffs. There are probably at least five teams in that boat in the West.

Detroit tries for the season sweep as it beat visiting Calgary 2-1 in overtime on Nov. 27. Connor Zary tied it for the Flames at 17:12 of the third, but young rising Wings star Lucas Raymond won it with a power-play goal at 3:35 of OT. He also assisted on Alex DeBrincat’s first-period goal and was the No. 1 star. Cam Talbot was in net for Detroit, which has won five straight in the series, and Dan Vladar was for Calgary.

The teams have split the past 10 meetings overall and the over-under is 3-5-2.

Detroit Red Wings

The Wings have been streaky much of this season, and they have followed a three-game skid with four straight wins following a 3-2 shootout victory in Edmonton on Thursday in a pretty big upset and despite trailing 2-0 about midway through the second. Michael Rasmussen (eighth goal of season) and Dylan Larkin (22nd) scored in the second to tie it. Oilers stars Connor McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins failed on their shootout chances against Alex Lyon, who made 45 saves in regulation and overtime. It was Detroit’s second straight multi-goal comeback victory, a B2B feat the franchise had accomplished only four other teams in the past 30 years. The Wings became the sixth NHL team this season to register back-to-back multi-goal comeback wins. Detroit is without forward Patrick Kane and defenceman Jeff Petry with both on IR. Centre JT Compher hasn’t played since last Saturday and is day-to-day. The team generally platoons in net, so it likely will be Cam Talbot here. The one-time Flame is 4-4-1 with a 3.02 GAA and .905 SV on the road this season. The under is 4-2 in the Wings’ past six games.

Calgary Flames

The Flames snapped a two-game skid with a 4-1 home win over Anaheim on Thursday despite trailing 1-0 after one. Winger Matt Coronato, 22, was the No. 1 star with two goals and an assist in arguably the game of his young career. It was initially a hat trick for Coronato, but the Flames’ go-ahead goal late in the second was later judged to have deflected in off Blake Coleman. Coronato scored his two in the third in the third multi-goal performance of his career. Dustin Wolf stopped 30 of 31 shots to complete a terrific January in which he was 7-3-0 with a 2.32 GAA and .922 SV. It’s not 100 per cent it will be him Saturday (as opposed to Dan Vladar) as it’s the front end of a back-to-back. Saturday also could be the Calgary debut of forwards Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee after they were acquired via trade from the Flyers on Thursday for forwards Andrei Kuzmenko and Jakob Pelletier, a 2025 second-round pick and a 2028 seventh-rounder. Just a matter of travel, etc., as to whether they can play. The under is 11-5 in Calgary’s past 16 games.
