Rangers vs. Jets NHL Betting Odds

It’s not out of the question that Tuesday’s matchup will be a Stanley Cup Finals preview. Winnipeg is competing for the Presidents’ Trophy, is the -250 favourite to win the Central Division and +600 to win the Western Conference. New York is currently sitting third in the East Wild-Card race with 68 points but just a point behind Ottawa for that last spot. The Rangers +150 to make the playoffs with no at -180. They are +1800 to win the East.

New York’s Igor Shesterkin won the Vezina Trophy in the 2021-22 season and is having a good season overall but actually career-worst numbers by his high standards. That’s part of the reason why the Rangers are sitting outside a playoff spot currently. Winnipeg’s Connor Hellebuyck is a two-time Vezina winner who is a -4000 favourite to win a third.

The Jets try for the season sweep as they won 6-3 at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 12. Kyle Connor was the No. 1 star with two goals and an assist, while Mark Scheifele had two goals. Each team scored at least once in each period. Hellebuyck and Shesterkin were both in net.

The teams have split the past 10 meetings overall and the over-under is 4-6 in those.

New York Rangers

The Rangers lost a third straight game Sunday, 7-3 at home to Columbus – the type of loss the Blueshirts simply can’t afford chasing a playoff spot as the Blue Jackets have one of the NHL’s worst road records. But New York backup Jonathan Quick was terrible. Artemi Panarin (28th of season), Braden Schneider (fourth) and Chris Kreider (18th) had the Rangers’ goals. It was Panarin’s fifth straight game with a goal, tying a career-high streak. The goals by Schneider and Kreider were shorthanded. It marked the first time that the Rangers recorded multiple shorthanded goals in a game since Nov. 30, 2019, and they now have 13 shorthanded goals to lead the NHL. The last time New York had as many shorthanded goals in a season was 2000-01 with 16. Kreider recorded his 13th career shorthanded goal and passed Bill Fairbairn for the fourth most in franchise history. No. 1 netminder Igor Shesterkin should be back in there Tuesday. Former Norris Trophy-winning defenceman Adam Fox is on injured reserve. The under is 4-2 in the Rangers’ past six games.

Winnipeg Jets

Winnipeg’s two-game winning streak was snapped in the finale of a four-game trip on Sunday, 4-2 at a very good Carolina team that might win the Eastern Conference. The Hurricanes scored in every period. Alex Iafallo (10th of season) and Adam Lowry (14th) had the Winnipeg goals – Lowry has a three-game goals streak and is one shy of tying his career-high streak set in 2016-17. Connor Hellebuyck stopped 23 of 26 shots as the fourth goal scored was on an empty net. He has just one victory in his past four starts. Winnipeg was blanked on three power-play opportunities and gave Carolina six of them, one of which the Hurricanes converted. Blueliner Luke Schenn was not in the lineup after being acquired Friday from Pittsburgh for draft picks. The Jets are 5-1 in their past six at home.
