Winnipeg plays its first home game in several weeks Tuesday when they host the excellent Florida Panthers. Florida opened as -160 favourites to win on the NHL odds.

Panthers vs. Jets NHL Betting Odds

Tuesday is the first of two regular-season meetings between the teams as the Jets will head to south Florida on April 15. They didn’t play last season and Florida hasn’t played in Winnipeg since the 2018-19 season because their scheduled game there in 2019-20 was not played due to the NHL shutdown during the pandemic. The Jets won the lone meeting that season 4-3 at Florida.

Because of COVID postponements, Tuesday is the Jets’ first home game since a 4-2 win over St. Louis on Dec. 19. They are 10-6-1 at home and Florida is a mortal 7-6-5 on the road compared to a ridiculous 21-3-0 at home. The Panthers are definitely good enough to win a Stanley Cup. They are +137 favourites to win the Atlantic Division, +376 co-favourites with Tampa Bay in the Eastern Conference and +715 to win the Cup.

Winnipeg is 5-2 in the past seven meetings. The total has gone over in three of the previous five.

Florida Panthers

This concludes a five-game road trip for the Panthers and they are 2-2 on it following a 5-3 upset loss in Seattle on Sunday – the expansion Kraken aren’t very good overall but are 2-0 vs. Florida. Anthony Duclair (18th of season), Jonathan Huberdeau (16th) and Aleksander Barkov (18th) had the Panthers’ goals. Aaron Ekblad had a pair of assists and is a top Norris Trophy candidate. Sergei Bobrovsky allowed four of the five goals to see a five-game winning streak end. The Russian should be in net Tuesday and is 20-4-3 with a 2.44 GAA and .923 SV. Forward Patric Hornqvist (7G, 11A) didn’t play Sunday with an upper-body injury and is questionable for Tuesday. Defenceman Gustav Forsling (1G, 18A) is in protocols. Florida is 10-4 in its past 14 games vs. the Central Division.

Winnipeg Jets

Winnipeg lost its fourth in a row Sunday, 3-2 in a shootout at Pittsburgh. The Jets were up 2-0 after two periods on goals from Blake Wheeler (second of season) and Kyle Connor (22nd). Connor Hellebuyck stopped 36 of 38 shots but allowed two goals nine seconds apart in the third. Sidney Crosby had the lone goal in the shootout. Hellebuyck has one win his past six starts (1-3-2). Forward Nikloaj Ehlers (13G, 12A) was placed on long-term injured reserve Saturday so he’ll be out a while. Blueliner Dylan DeMelo (1G, 3A) missed Sunday’s game with a lower-body injury. The Jets are 1-6 in their past seven vs. the Eastern Conference.
