The Oilers finally got in the win column on this trip when they defeated the New York Islanders 2-1 on Friday in another low-scoring Oilers outing. But as per usual this season, Leon Draisaitl was there to save the day with both Edmonton goals.

New York’s returning home on a back-to-back, blanking Columbus 4-0 last night. The win moved the Rangers up into the final Wild-Card spot in a wild Eastern Conference playoff race. Sunday is the start of four-straight home contests for the Rangers.

Puck drop at Madison Square Garden gets going at 7 p.m. EDT with the Oilers a -140 moneyline favourite on the road and the total at 6.5 on the NHL odds.

Oilers vs. Rangers NHL Betting Odds

With both clubs going through some scoring woes, the under has been the play when it comes to both the Oilers and Ranges. The under is 5-1 in Edmonton’s last six road games and 8-1 in New York’s last home games.

Head-to-head Edmonton’s gotten the better of the Rangers, as the Oilers have four wins in their last five trips to MSG and are 8-3 in their last 11 meetings overall with New York. Their only other meeting this season was a 6-2 win back on November 23 in which Connor McDavid recorded two goals and an assist. Lastly of note, New York is 5-15-3 straight up as an underdog this season.

NHL Betting Guide

Edmonton Oilers

Two Oilers have scored during their three-game road trip: Leon Draisaitl and Evan Bouchard. These are two of the three Oilers, Connor McDavid the other, with 40 points this season as a lack of secondary scoring continues to keep Edmonton right in the mix of the Pacific Division. A 4-6 stretch has dropped the Oilers to third in the division, as a first-round matchup with L.A. for the fourth straight season appears more and more likely.

On the positive side, with his overtime winner on Friday Leon Draisaitl reached his sixth 100-point season and fourth straight. Draisaitl’s 49 goals are 10 more than any other NHL skater and he’s now six shy of his career-best of 55. The 49 goals are double any Oilers skater, which again is a problem that needs to get sorted out fast in Edmonton.

New York Rangers

For once, Igor Shesterkin got gifted an easy shutout in last night’s 4-0 win at Columbus. The Rangers again rank in the top-five in the NHL in shots allowed and Shesterkin’s one of two goalies with 1,400 saves this season, but on Saturday he cruised to an 21-save shutout. This also indicates Jonathan Quick will be between the pipes Sunday versus Edmonton. Quick is 9-6-2 this season with an .896 save percentage.

With a goal and an assist last night, Artemi Panarin extended his point streak to eight games. Panarin’s 29 goals and 70 points each lead the Rangers this season. With two goals last night, Vincent Trocheck joined Panarin as the only 20-goal scorers for the team. Trocheck’s scored in two straight games and has five points in his last four outings.
