Vancouver has won three straight games after dispatching the L.A. Kings 4-2 on Thursday night. Edmonton, on the other hand, is leaking some oil while losing their last two games, 3-0 against New Jersey on Monday and 4-2 against Vegas on Wednesday.

The Canucks opened as slim -122 favourites to win on the NHL odds, with the total pegged at 6.5.

Oilers vs. Canucks NHL Betting Odds

Vancouver swept the four-game regular season series last year, but it was Edmonton who got the final laugh. The Oilers won a hard-fought second-round playoff series in seven games, with six of the contests decided by a single goal.

Fast-forwarding to this season, neither team has been a dynamite cover option. The Canucks have managed to go an even 6-6 against the spread, while Edmonton has covered in just four of 14 games.

Both teams are trending toward lower scoring games. The total has gone Under 10 times for the Oilers and six times for Vancouver. The Under has now played in eight of Edmonton’s last 10 games overall and 12 of their last 15 on the road.

Edmonton Oilers

The Oilers dodged a huge bullet with the return of Connor McDavid to the lineup on Thursday, but Edmonton’s captain was held off the scoresheet. McDavid, who missed the previous three games with an ankle injury, returned well ahead of schedule and finished with over 21 minutes of ice time. Zach Hyman and Brett Kulak scored for the Oilers. After going goalless in his first 10 games, Hyman has three goals over his last four.

There’s been no word on a starting goalie for Saturday, but Skinner likely has the edge in an important divisional game. Skinner stopped 31 of 34 shots faced against the Golden Knights and while the loss wasn’t his fault, it was still his third regulation loss in his last six starts. He’s posted a 3-5-1 record this season with a 3.28 goals-against average and .885 SV. Backup Calvin Pickard is 3-2-1 with a 2.60 GAA and .886 SV.

Vancouver Canucks

The Canucks rolled to a third straight victory on Thursday thanks to goals from Quinn Hughes, Jake DeBrusk, Conor Garland and J.T. Miller. Kevin Lankinen stopped 26 of 28 shots faced in net. Lankinen has received the majority of starts with Thatcher Demko dealing with a knee injury. He’s significantly outplayed Arturs Silovs, going 7-0-2 with a 2.08 GAA and .923 SV. Silovs (5.00 GAA, .797 SV) has lost all three of his starts while allowing six goals in his first and third game of the season. It should be Lankinen again on Saturday.

One potentially significant setback for Vancouver is the injury suffered by Brock Boeser, who left and did not return on Thursday after taking an illegal hit to the head from Kings forward Tanner Jeannot. There’s been no update on Boeser’s status and it will be a big loss if he misses any time as Boeser is coming off a career-best 40-goal season last year and he currently leads the Canucks with six goals this year.
