That early-season slump is now a distant memory for the Toronto Maple Leafs, who continue their surge up the Eastern Conference standings heading into a Saturday night encounter with the host Buffalo Sabres. Toronto has won seven of its previous eight games to rally from a 2-4-1 start and is coming off a come-from-behind win over Calgary on Friday. Buffalo is riding high after its own impressive Friday night victory, a 3-2 triumph over red-hot Edmonton.

Maple Leafs vs. Sabres NHL Betting Odds

The Maple Leafs are expected to cruise in this one, having won seven of the previous nine meetings between the clubs. And the Sports Interaction crowd is firmly behind the Blue and White, taking Toronto at a 93-percent clip. But there could be some nice value behind the Sares (+170), who are a sizzling 5-1-1 at KeyBank Center so far this season and have some momentum after ending a five-game losing streak with the win over the Oilers.

With 5.5 all the rage these days, it’s rare to see anything above that – but that’s what bettors have here, with the total for this matchup set at 6 (the Under is listed at -120, with the Over at +100). And Sports Interaction participants might know something the books don’t, with 89 percent siding with the O6 play. That runs counter to what we’ve seen from the Maple Leafs so far in 2021-22, with Toronto entering at 5-10 O/U for the season.

Toronto Maple Leafs

You knew it was just a matter of time before the Leafs got things figured out – and that their turnaround coincided with the return to form of Auston Matthews is no coincidence. The defending Rocket Richard Trophy winner has erupted for six goals and five assists over his last nine games, during which the Maple Leafs have gone an impressive 7-2. He’s currently the No. 2 option to defend his league goal-scoring title at +400.

Buffalo Sabres

Getting back to strong defensive fundamentals is a must for a Sabres team that isn’t going to win many high-scoring games this season. The Sabres improved to 5-0-1 when allowing two or fewer goals with the win over a high-powered Oilers club – and that result was a significant one for a Buffalo team that had surrendered 22 goals in its previous five games. That said, these teams have converted the Over in 11 of their previous 14 meetings.
