Maple Leafs vs. Kraken NHL Betting Odds

This is only Year 4 of the Seattle Kraken franchise and it appears as if it will finish with a losing record and miss the playoffs for the third time in those four seasons. Just about everything went right in 2022-23 when the Kraken not only made the playoffs for the first time but advanced a round. For whatever reason, that magic hasn’t been recaptured. Seattle sits fourth-from-last in the Western Conference and is +5500 to reach the playoffs.

After missing the 2024 postseason, the team fired coach Dave Hakstol, a former Maple Leafs assistant. The new coach is Dan Bylsma, who won the Stanley Cup as coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2009. It’s Bylsma’s first top gig in the NHL since 2016-17 with the Buffalo Sabres. Maybe no major sports league in North America recycles coaches like the NHL.

Toronto eyes the season sweep as it was a 4-1 home winner over Seattle on Halloween, scoring at least once in every period. William Nylander was the No. 1 star with two goals, Joseph Woll the No. 2 with 24 saves, and John Tavares the No. 3 with two assists. Joey Daccord stopped 26 shots in the loss.

The Leafs lead the all-time series 6-1 and the over-under is 3-4.

Toronto Maple Leafs

Toronto has followed a three-game skid with back-to-back wins to begin this road trip following a 6-3 victory in Calgary on Tuesday. William Nylander capped his second career hat trick with an empty-net goal, his team-best 33rd score of the season. Amazingly, the hat trick occurred exactly eight years to the date of his first: Feb. 4, 2017 at Boston. Nylander also had a multi-goal period for the 10th time in his career.

In his 600th career game, Auston Matthews had three assists for his 55th career three-point game and 11th three-assist outing. Bobby McMann extended his road goal streak to four games and is up to a career-high 16 goals. Quality win as Toronto was without leading scorer Mitch Marner (70 points) due to a lower-body injury for his first missed game of the season. He’s day-to-day. Marner is a key part of the power play, but it went 2-for-4 without him.

Joseph Woll started his fourth game in a row and improved to 19-10-0 with a 2.67 GAA and .909 SV.. He probably the favourite to start Thursday, but it’s possible former No. 1 Anthony Stolarz returns from his injury and plays for the first time since Jan. 12. The might want to get him in a game before the 4 Nations Face-Off break and Woll could use a night off. Toronto is 8-1 in its past nine vs. the Pacific Division.

Seattle Kraken

Seattle lost for the fourth time in five games Tuesday, 5-4 at home to streaking Detroit in a shootout as the Wings’ Patrick Kane scored the lone shootout goal. The Kraken did well to force OT trailing 4-2 midway through the third but got goals from Shane Wright (second of game) and Chandler Stephenson to force it. Wright has a points streak of six games and became the 10th Seattle player this year with at least 10 goals. Only Carolina and Washington have more such players.

Kaapo Kakko had an assist and now has five goals and 12 assists since making his debut with the Kraken on Dec. 19 following a trade from the New York Rangers. Kakko’s 17 points are tied for the team lead over that span. The Kraken, who are among the NHL leaders with six multi-goal comeback wins, dropped to 1-3 in shootouts this season.

Seattle has no quality backup goaltender right now, so Joey Daccord (18-13-1, 2.49 GAA, .915 SV) should get yet another start. The Kraken are 6-12 in their past 18 at home.
