The Toronto Maple Leafs extended their home-ice dominance over rival Boston on Monday – and in doing so, extended their first-round series with the Bruins to seven games. But the hosts have a sizeable edge in oddsmakers’ eyes as Boston and Toronto lock horns in a do-or-die Game 7 Wednesday night at TD Garden. The Bruins are expected to advance to Round 2, while the Leafs would love to rally from a 3-1 deficit – something they very nearly did five years ago.

Maple Leafs vs. Bruins Stanley Cup Playoffs Betting Analysis

The trends – both short- and long-term – favour the home team in this one. The Bruins come in having won 21 of their previous 27 games at TD Garden, and the host has won six of the past eight games between the teams. And in the history of postseason Game 7s, the home team owns a 99-70 mark all-time. Game 7 is also a showdown of Wednesday trends, with Toronto having won six straight games on a Wednesday and Boston going 6-1 in its past seven.

Looking for an even stronger trend? The teams are a significant threat to go over in the seventh and deciding game, with Toronto having gone above the number eight times with one push in its previous 10 road games and Boston going 10-2-4 O/U in its past 16 road tilts. The Maple Leafs have been one of the strongest over teams in the league over the past two months, going 19-7-2 O/U in their past 26 games overall.

Toronto Maple Leafs

The Maple Leafs need that first goal; teams that score first are 126-43 all-time in Game 7s. But the odds of doing so are not in their favour, as they come in at +100 to strike first; Boston, by comparison, is listed at -140. The Maple Leafs have been outshot by 32 in the first three games at TD Garden and were fortunate to escape with the victory in Game 5, prevailing 4-3 despite being outshot by an absurd 45-21 margin in the contest.

Boston Bruins

Does David Pastrnak have any more first-round playoff heroics left in him in this NHL matchup? That’s what bettors need to figure out after the sensational Czech forward racked up 11 points over the first four games of the series. Pastrnak has been held off the scoresheet in two games since, but has been installed as a -220 favourite to record at least one point in Game 7. Pastrnak is at +125 to score a goal in the deciding game, and -175 to go without a tally.
