The Lightning cruised to a 4-1 victory in Game 3 for just their eighth win in the previous 44 games in Boston – and are now listed as a whopping -303 favourite to reach the Eastern Conference final for the third time in the past four years.

Lightning vs Bruins Stanley Cup Playoffs Betting Analysis

The Bruins are expected to even things up heading back to Tampa, but a pair of negative trends are worth considering, despite Boston having won 22 of its past 29 home games. The Bruins are just 1-5 SU in their last six games on one day of rest, and have dropped four of their past five second-round games dating back to their unceremonious seven-game loss to Montreal in 2014. The Lightning, by comparison, have won 19 of their past 26 second-round games.

The totals trends have shifted going into Game 4, with the under now the more prudent play if recent history is any indication. The Lightning are 1-3-1 O/U in their last five games, and have gone below the number in six of their past nine games on one day of rest. The Bruins have just one under in their past 11 home games, but are 4-15-2 O/U in their last 21 games against teams above .600. And the teams have gone under in five of their last eight meetings.

Tampa Bay Lightning

Depth has been the Lightning’s strength for the majority of the season, and it has allowed Tampa to seize control of the best-of-seven. Six different Tampa Bay players have accounted for eight Lightning goals over the past two games, with Ondrej Palat (three) the only multi-goal scorer over that span. And Tampa Bay has been sensational when going on a defensive roll, having won 35 of 51 games after allowing two or fewer goals in its previous contest.

Boston Bruins

Shaky goaltending and a major offensive drought have dropped the Bruins to underdog status, as they carry +230 odds to rally for a series victory. And while Boston has been a strong bounceback team of late – having won 21 of 27 games after scoring two or fewer goals in its previous outing – it will need more production from its top line of Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak, who have been held scoreless the past two games.
