Through three weeks of NHL hockey, the Winnipeg Jets stand alone as an undefeated team. Their latest success was Thursday night in Seattle via a 4-3 overtime victory over the Kraken. Calgary was also in action on Thursday, although they fell at home to the Carolina Hurricanes 4-2. Even so, it was only their first regulation defeat of the campaign.

Jets vs. Flames NHL Betting Odds

Although Winnipeg has been a playoff participant the past two seasons and Calgary has not, the latter has earned the spoils more often in head-to-head meetings. In 2022-23 and 2023-24, the Flames won two of the three regular season games between these sides. What’s more, it’s been a minute since the Jets flew out of Calgary with two points. The last time was in May 2021.

All the deserved hoopla surrounding the Jets is coming from the analysts and supporters. Betters who have put their faith in Winnipeg have not, in fact, been rewarded much this season. The club is only 3-4 against the puck line. Scott Arniel’s group is finding ways to win rather than thumping opponents. Four of their seven successes have been by a single goal, three in OT.

Conversely, the Flames are looking good ATS with a 5-2 record. Their spread results have been direct translations of what’s happened in games, with their two failures coming the two times they’ve lost outright this season. It’s tempting to consider the over for this game, as Calgary nets 3.57 times per match and Winnipeg a whopping 4.43.

Winnipeg Jets

No matter the situation, opponent, or location, the Jets are grinding out victories. The latest example came in the Pacific Northwest Thursday night versus the Kraken.

For the second consecutive road game, Winnipeg fell down 1-0 in the first period, which for many teams would be a bad momentum shift. Not so with this group. They held the fort and levelled the terms early in the middle frame through Nino Niederreiter’s third of the season. Later in the second, Gabriel Vilardi (first) caught the Seattle defence napping and skated around a sprawled Joey Daccord to put his side up 2-1.

After Niederreiter padded the Jets’ advantage to 3-1 in the third, Seattle stormed back with a pair to send the game to overtime. One would think that put the odds against the Jets but they came through once again. In OT, Nikolaj Ehlers (third) wristed a shot on a delayed Kraken penalty that squeaked through the Seattle netminder’s pads and trickled off the post and in for a 4-3 win.

Calgary Flames

Calgary had a chance to keep pace with Winnipeg when they hosted Carolina Thursday night, at least insofar as a perfect regulation record was concerned. Alas, the Canes largely outclassed the hosts, handing the latter a 4-2 loss.

Things didn’t start well for Ryan Huska’s ensemble at all. The visitors got the jump on Calgary early and often, starting with a perfectly set-up power play goal in the first period that left the Flames’ penalty kill dizzy. Two face-off losses in their zone led to a pair of goals in the second period and a 3-0 deficit. To their credit, there was no quit in Calgary, with Jake Bean opening his season tally in the middle frame. Jonathan Huberdeau continued to look like his former self by netting his fourth in the third period to make it 3-2, but that’s as close as the Flames would get.

Fun fact: the Flames’ points leader so far is defenceman Rasmus Andersson with nine points (three goals, six assists). He’s also a team-best plus-six.
