Golden Knights vs. Oilers NHL Betting Odds

This actually marks the first of three straight Saturday afternoon games for Edmonton as it hosts San Jose next week and then visits the Los Angeles Kings on Dec. 28 and both of those also have a start time of 4 p.m. ET like this one. Note that it is the front end of a back-to-back for Vegas, so that will affect which goaltender gets the call Saturday. Edmonton is not in a B2B situation.

Expect both these Pacific Division and Western Conference contenders to be active ahead of the trade deadline. Winning the division is big because it guarantees home-ice advantage in at least the first two rounds of the playoffs. Vegas is the +160 favourite to win it for the second time in three seasons. Edmonton has never won the division since it became the Pacific and is +180.

It’s the third of four meetings between these rivals, but a playoff matchup is quite possible. The Golden Knights lead 2-0, winning 4-2 in Edmonton on Nov. 6 and 1-0 at home on Dec. 3. Ivan Barbashev (1G, 3A) leads Vegas with four points in the series, while Jack Eichel (1G, 2A) has three. Both are plus-4. Adin Hill started both in net and has a 1.00 GAA and .965 SV. Stuart Skinner started both in net for Edmonton. Connor McDavid doesn’t have a point in the series.

The Oilers sill have won six of the past 10 in the series, and none of the past four have landed over the total.

Vegas Golden Knights

Vegas won its fourth game in a row Thursday, a 3-2 overtime upset in Winnipeg. The Knights rallied from down 1-0 in the first and 2-1 in the third with Victor Olofsson tying it at 18:11 with his fourth goal of the season and first since Oct. 15. It was the Knights’ 19th game-tying goal in the final two minutes of regulation since joining the NHL seven years ago, which is tied with Washington and Florida for the second most among all teams over that span. Vancouver leads with 20. Ivan Barbashev’s 14th goal of the year was the winner at 3:47 of OT for Vegas – his first career OT goal. It was the team’s 49th OT win since joining the league, which is fourth-most. And it was the Knights’ 10th comeback win of this season, second-most in the league as of this writing. Adin Hill (13-4-2, 2.59 GAA, .904 SV) was in net Thursday for the second straight game, which may mean it will be Ilya Samsonov’s turn Saturday. The former Maple Leaf is 6-3-1 with a 3.16 GAA and .896 SV. The under is 5-0 in Vegas’ past five.

Edmonton Oilers

Edmonton also won its fourth straight game on Thursday and it was one of the most impressive victories by any club this season, 7-1 at excellent Minnesota. The Oilers scored at least twice in every period to stop a six-game losing streak in the Twin Cities that spanned nearly five years. Leon Draisaitl led the way with a goal and three assists, while Connor McDavid had two assists. It was Draisaitl’s 27th career four-point game to tie Mark Messier for fourth place on the franchise’s all-time list. Draisaitl passed Peter Forsberg (26) for the 10th most such games in NHL history among players born outside North America. Blueliner Evan Bouchard was the No. 1 star with two assists but limped off the ice late in the game and might be in doubt for Saturday. Bouchard has been tremendous with six goals, 16 assists and a plus-5 rating. On Thursday, he joined Hall of Famer Paul Coffey (four times) as the second defenceman in Oilers history with 100 points in a calendar year (regular season and playoffs combined). Calvin Pickard was in net Thursday, so it almost certainly will be Stuart Skinner on Saturday. He is 4-1-0 over his last five appearances with a 1.41 GAA and a .947 SV. Edmonton is 6-1 in its past seven at home.
