Vegas has lived up to the top dog moniker thus far as a 8-3-1 start has the Golden Knights right at the top of the Pacific Division.

Edmonton’s coming off their first loss in three games without Connor McDavid (ankle) when they fell to New Jersey, 3-0 on Monday. It doesn’t sound like McDavid will be ready to go against Vegas, but the Oilers superstar is back skating and could return on the weekend. Life without McDavid hadn’t been difficult before Monday’s shutout though, as Edmonton closed out a road trip with two wins where they scored nine goals combined.

Puck drop at Rogers Place goes at 8:30 p.m. EST with this bout listed as a pick’em on the NHL odds, while the over-under is 6.5.

Golden Knights vs. Oilers NHL Betting Odds

Vegas’ home-away splits are outrageous, to say the least. At home this season, Vegas is 8-0. On the road, Vegas is 0-3-1 and have allowed a minimum of four goals in each loss. That would be terrifying news if the Golden Knights were travelling to face an Edmonton team with McDavid in the lineup, but instead it’s a McDavid-less Oilers team that just got shut out. Ironically, Edmonton is just 2-4-1 at Rogers Place this season.

Seven of Vegas’ last eight outings have gone over the total, and they enter Wednesday ranked second in the NHL with 4.5 goals per game. Edmonton is shockingly 30th in scoring with 2.38 goals per outing, causing seven of their last nine contests to go under. Something’s got to give, and knowing Edmonton… the goals have to come eventually.

Vegas Golden Knights

With nine of the Golden Knights’ next 11 games on the road there’s no doubt Wednesday is a prime chance to gain some much-needed momentum. When Vegas left for Edmonton they sat in first place in the Pacific Division, but have yet to record a road victory. Goaltending’s been the main issue for Vegas in these road defeats. Starter Adin Hill’s had a rough start to the 2024–25 campaign with an .874 save percentage in seven outings. Off-season acquisition ilya Samsonov’s fared better with a .906 save percentage but is coming off a 6-3 defeat at L.A. in which he allowed six goals on 27 shots.

Twelve games in, Vegas has six skaters with at least four goals. Ivan Barbashev and Pavel Dorofeyev are tied for the team lead with seven each. Dorofeyev’s the hotter hand with three goals in his last two outings, although Barbashev’s scoring on over 30 per cent of his shots this season.

Edmonton Oilers

Monday’s shutout loss wasn’t from a lack of effort, as Edmonton outshot New Jersey 31-16 and got goalie’d. Since McDavid’s ankle injury three games ago, Leon Draisaitl predictably stepped up with back-to-back three-point nights but was then surprisingly quiet in the shutout loss, failing to even register a shot on goal. Draisaitl’s yet to go consecutive games without a point this season, never mind a shot on goal, so expect a bounce back against Vegas.

And since you just read that half a dozen Golden Knights have at least four goals this season, it puts into perspective the fact that Edmonton has just one with at least four: Draisaitl. Zach Hyman’s started this season extremely cold with two goals in 13 games. After a 54-goal campaign last season, Hyman is more than due.
