The Vegas Golden Knights and Washington Capitals are all square through the first two games of the Stanley Cup final – and oddsmakers have the series at a virtual draw as the teams prepare to tangle in Game 3 Saturday night at Capital One Arena. Washington held on for a 3-2 victory over the expansion Golden Knights in Game 2, and will now enjoy home-ice advantage – such as it is – as it seeks its first-ever Stanley Cup title.

Golden Knights vs. Capitals Stanley Cup Final Odds

The Capitals’ home record in the postseason is far from sparkling, but that hasn’t prevented oddsmakers from making them a slight favourite – mirroring their ever-so-slim edge to win the series (-120) against the formidable Golden Knights (-110). Washington opened as a larger home fave in this NHL matchup but bettors continue to back Vegas, which comes in having won six of its last eight road games and is 25-7 SU in its last 32 games after scoring two or fewer goals last time out.

Over bettors will likely look past the Game 2 result and focus more on a crazy opener in which the teams combined for 10 goals. But both teams come into this one with strong under trends, which might give some totals wagerers pause even with the number at 5.5. Vegas has gone below the number four times with a push in its last five road games, while Washington is just 3-13 O/U in its previous 16 encounters with Pacific Division opponents.

Vegas Golden Knights

With the Golden Knights only slight underdogs for Game 3, there isn’t a lot of value in betting them straight-up – at least, not compared to taking them to win in regulation. Vegas is +100 to prevail Saturday night, but you’ll get +155 for picking it to win in 60 minutes – and that is proving to be a solid strategy in these Stanley Cup playoffs, with only 10 games having been decided in overtime. In fact, no game has gone to extra time since April 30.

Washington Capitals

If you like the favourite in this one under the same circumstances, you’ll find the Capitals in regulation at +130 much more appealing than their straight-up price. It’s also a good time to start thinking about your Conn Smythe Trophy prop – and Capitals sniper Alex Ovechkin is the runaway choice among Washington players at +135, tied with Vegas netminder Marc-Andre Fleury for the best odds. Looking for a dark horse? Take Evgeny Kuznetsov at +700.
