A little bit unusual we are this deep into this season and it’s the first game between division rivals. They will meet four times overall. Both teams were supposed to be coming off games against the Islanders, but the Blueshirts’ game against the Isles on Sunday was postponed by COVID (on NYI) as was the Flyers’ game Tuesday. Makeup dates for both games are to be determined.

Flyers vs. Rangers NHL Betting Odds

Last season, the Flyers and Rangers split eight regular-season meetings, each going 2-2 at home. Sean Couturier led Philadelphia with eight points in the series, seven of them assists. Claude Giroux had two goals and four assists but was minus-6. Carter Hart was 1-1-1 with a 4.94 goals-against average and .821 save per centage in four appearances.

Mika Zibanejad led New York with a whopping 18 points in the series, seven of them goals (five on the power play). Ryan Strome, Adam Fox and Artemi Panarin each had 10 points. Igor Shesterkin was 1-3-0 with a 3.06 GAA and .923 SV.

The favourite is 14-6 in the past 20 meetings.

Philadelphia Flyers

Philadelphia lost its sixth straight game Sunday, 5-2 in New Jersey – it was 2-2 midway through the third period. Scott Laughton (fourth of season) and Joel Farabee (seventh) had the Philly goals. Martin Jones allowed four goals on 34 shots, but it should be Carter Hart on Wednesday. He is 5-5-3 with a 2.67 GAA and .920 SV but has lost his past three and surrendered a combined 13 goals. That the Flyers are struggling right now isn’t a huge surprise as they are wiped out by injuries to the likes of Kevin Hayes, Derick Brassard and Ryan Ellis (and many others). Claude Giroux leads the team with 17 points but is minus-6. Philadelphia is 0-6 in its past six as an underdog.

New York Rangers

New York won its third in a row Friday, upsetting the Bruins 5-2 in Boston. Igor Shesterkin stopped 34 shots and is having a fabulous season at 11-3-2 with a 2.22 GAA and .933 SV. Ryan Strome had a goal and assist and has two goals and eight assists during an eight-game point streak. At 13-4-3 for 29 points, the Rangers are off to their best 20-game start to a season since also having 29 points in the 2016-17 season.

Gerard Gallant has the second-most points by a Rangers coach through his first 20 games of a coaching tenure, second to Phil Esposito’s 15-5-0 record for 30 points in 1986-87. Shesterkin is the first Rangers goaltender since Henrik Lundqvist in 2015-16 to have 11 wins through the first 20 games of the team’s season. When tied or leading after two periods this year, the Rangers are 12-0-3.  New York is 5-0 in its past five at home.
