Yes, it’s yet another Sunday evening match for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Tonight will mark their fourth of the season and third at home. On Saturday, they hosted the Boston Bruins and got the better of them in a wildly entertaining affair, 6-4. As for the Philadelphia Flyers, they’re on the final leg of a road trip that started before Christmas. In fact, this if the first of a home-and-home with Toronto that concludes on Tuesday in Philly.

As per our NHL odds, the Maple Leafs are pegged as -161 moneyline favourites to the Flyers’ +135.

Flyers vs. Maple Leafs NHL Betting Odds

The Flyers and Maple Leafs have yet to meet this season. In three matches during the 2023-24 campaign, Toronto claimed two wins. While that might suggest that these clubs play each other close, the reality is that the Leafs have bested the Flyers in eight of their last 10 games, with seven of those results featuring margins of two goals or greater.

Philadelphia appears to be taking baby steps toward relevancy. Currently, they’re in the thick of the hunt for a Wild Card playoff spot in the Easter Conference, barely a couple of points on the outside looking in. But as a testament to how topsy-turvy things have been this season, their last six results have flip-flopped between wins and defeats. Against the spread, John Tortorella’s group is 19-20-0.

Toronto is looking good atop the Atlantic Division and even found a way to steer the ship this season when talisman Auston Matthews has been out due to injury. Winners of three straight, the Leafs have also been quite dependable ATS this year, what with their decent 23-17-0 tally. The situation in net has been alarming from a health perspective, as Anthony Stolarz remains out. Joseph Woll has started the last three games, s Matt Murray could be between the pipes tonight.

Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers conclude an up-and-down road trip that most recently saw them in Vegas to play the Golden Knights. While some of the numbers suggest Philadelphia fared well, they were outplayed to the tune of a 5-2 defeat.

The match’s beginning was particularly misleading, as immediate pressure around the Vegas net allowed Tyson Foester to net his 11th of the season just 21 seconds in. However, the Golden Knights would quickly regroup and went on to score four unanswered goals. Philadelphia pulled one back through Travis Konecny’s power play marker early in the third period, but that was as close as the Flyers got.

After a hot start to the season, Matvei Michkov has cooled off somewhat. He’s only registered points in one of his five most recent outings.

Netminder Samuel Ersson is still listed as day-to-day.

Toronto Maple Leafs

Maybe the Maple Leafs are finally turning things around against arch-rival the Bruins. Saturday’s home win over Boston was Toronto’s second consecutive  against them. That doesn’t sound like a lot, but given the poor history they have versus the Bruins, the Leafs will take it.

They’ll also happily take Matthew Knies’ first career hat trick that helped pave the way to the 6-4 win. His first came in the middle frame via a clever redirect that gave the hosts a 2-0 lead. His second and third were critical third-period markers when the match still hung in the balance, with the second goal a highlight-reel-worthy spin-o-rama effort from in close. Moreover, the third period saw the lamp lit six times, featuring six markers in total, albeit two were empty netters by the Leafs, including one from Matthews.

Of note, Jake McCabe got his first goal of the season to open the scoring.
