Flames vs. Rangers NHL Betting Odds

Calgary’s five-game road trip actually started Thursday at Atlantic Division team Detroit, but the final four are against Metropolitan Division teams. The Rangers make their lone trip to the Saddledome on Nov. 6.

Because of the unique schedule last regular season, the clubs didn’t play. In 2019-20, they played just once with the Flames winning 4-3 at home. That was so long ago, New York’s goaltender was future Hall of Famer Henrik Lundqvist. He’s since retired now. Calgary’s visit to Madison Square Garden that season was wiped out when the NHL shut down due to the pandemic. The favourite is 9-2 in the past 11 meetings.

Note that Calgary plays again Tuesday at New Jersey – a quick bus trip – so that could affect which goaltender the Flames use in this one.

Calgary Flames

Calgary is 2-0 on its five-game trip following a 4-3 overtime upset victory at Washington on Saturday. Elias Lindholm had his second career hat trick, including the winner at 2:46 of OT. He’s tied for the league lead (as of Sunday) with six goals. Lindholm has at least one goal in every game, one shy of tying Gary Roberts’ five-game run in 1989-90 as the longest in Flames history to open a season.

Andrew Mangiapane had the other goal, this third. Calgary led 3-0 after one and then allowed three goals in the second. Johnny Gaudreau had two assists to reach 500 career points. Dan Vladar got the start in net and stopped 22 of 25 shots but it should be Jacob Markstrom back in there Monday (then likely Vladar on Tuesday). He’s 1-1-1 with a 2.30 GAA and .924 SV. Calgary is 0-6 in its past six Monday games.

New York Rangers

New York enters on a four-game winning streak, taking all of those on the road. It was 3-2 in Ottawa on Saturday. The Sens led 2-0 with about six minutes remaining, but Chris Kreider (fourth of season), Ryan Lindgren (first) and Barclay Goodrow (second) rallied New York. Alexandar Georgiev stopped 26 of 28 shots, but it should be Igor Shesterkin on Monday. The Russian is 3-0-1 with a 1.47 GAA and .953 SV.

Forwards Kaapo Kakko, the No. 2 overall pick in 2019, and Ryan Strome, could both return Monday. Kakko has been out with an upper-body injury and Strome in the COVID protocols. The Rangers are 9-4 in their past 13 as home favourites.
