The Flames allowed just nine goals in the six games before last night’s contest with Los Angeles.

However, this team has only been able to win one of their last 10 games against teams in the Western Conference and they have lost all four of their games against teams in the Pacific Division. Finally, Calgary is a horrific 3-32 in their last 25 matchups with the Ducks in Anaheim. It’s not a place where they thrive.

Flipping over to the Ducks, they are undefeated straight up in their last five games against teams in the Pacific Division. They are also 8-2 straight up in their last ten games played at home as well. Anaheim has struggled on Friday though, winning three of their last 11 matchups on that day of the week. The over has been consistent for this squad though, cashing out in five of their last six games against teams in the Western Conference and four of their last five overall.

Calgary Flames

Defense has been the story for this Calgary team. They are allowing just 1.95 goals per game, which is the best mark in the NHL. They are also the top team in terms of save percentage with .940 and shutouts too, with seven already. It hasn’t just been their defensive players either as Jacob Markstrom has been absolutely phenomenal in the net. He currently holds a .938 save percentage and has allowed just a 1.75 goals-against average on a whopping 485 shots faced. If the Flames are going to win, defense will once again be the key to success.

Anaheim Ducks

Opposite of the Flames, Anaheim has relied upon their offense to keep themselves in close games. The third best power play team in the league has been able to score 3.33 goals per game behind 15 goals from Troy Terry. This group will have to step up if they want to win as this could be one of their stiffest tests of the season. This is a strength-on-strength matchup, so this offense has to shine.

Anaheim has been one of the biggest surprises of the current 2021 NHL regular season. We saw them rattle off eight straight wins earlier in the year and they enter Friday having won three of four. We’ll see if they can keep that momentum going and crack one of the toughest defenses in the league.
