After Calgary’s 2-1 win over L.A. on Saturday, the Flames are just one point back of Vancouver for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference, giving them a chance to leapfrog the Canucks with a win on Monday. It’s a very different story for the Blackhawks, who sit dead last in the NHL following Saturday’s 4-3 loss against the Oilers.

Calgary is a -160 favourite to win on the NHL odds, with the total set at 6.0.

Flames vs. Blackhawks NHL Betting Odds

Home cooking has been key to this head-to-head series, with the road squad dropping five straight games. That streak continued twice this year as the Flames won 3-1 on October 15 and 6-4 on December 21, both in Calgary. This wraps up the season series.

The Flames haven’t been a great road team this season. They are two games below .500 outside of Calgary, dropping 12 of their last 16 games away from the Saddledome. Luckily, Calgary is facing a Blackhawks squad that has lost eight of their last 10 games overall while sitting three games below .500 at home.

Both teams are close to even against the spread overall. You could give Chicago a slight edge in this one, however, as they are 11-10 ATS at home while the Flames are 8-10 ATS on the road.

Lower scoring games have been a trend for each team. The total has gone Under in six of Calgary’s last seven games, while the Blackhawks have finished below the number in five of their last seven against Pacific Division opponents.

Calgary Flames

Matt Coronato had the equalizing goal in the second period against the Kings on Saturday, while Jonathan Huberdeau scored the game-winner on the power play in the third. Huberdeau is on pace to have his best season in Calgary as he leads the team in both goals (18) and points (31), but it’s still well below the production the Flames expected when they traded then signed for the former Florida Panther in the summer of 2022.

Connor Zary has avoided surgery for the knee injury he suffered in Anaheim on Tuesday, but his rehabilitation schedule could still have him out of lineup for a good amount of time. It’s a big disappointment for the second-year forward who is tied for third on the Flames in points (22) and goals (10).

Rookie goaltender Dustin Wolf kept the Flames in it early against L.A. as Calgary was outshot 17-4 in the first period. Wolf finished the game with 31 saves on 32 shots and he’ll get the start again on Monday. A potential Calder Trophy candidate, Wolf is coming off back-to-back wins, recording a 1.48 goals-against average and .950 save percentage in that stretch.

Chicago Blackhawks

Chicago went up 2-0 early against Edmonton, but couldn’t hold on and suffered their NHL-high 27th regulation loss this season. Nick Foligno and Teuvo Teravainen each recorded a goal and an assist, while Ryan Donato scored his 13th of the campaign. Connor Bedard, who leads the team with 38 points (11G, 27A), had a 10-game point streak snapped in the loss.

A big issue for the Blackhawks this season has been generating offence at five-on-five. Chicago is averaging just 2.56 goals per game, ranked 29th in the NHL, despite their power play clicking at a respectable 22.9 per cent (12th).

Petr Mrazek will start against Calgary. It’s been a rough stretch for Mrazek, who only has one win in his last nine appearances (1-7-0). Overall, Mrazek has posted an 8-15-1 record this season with a 3.17 GAA and .895 SV.
