The Detroit Red Wings continue to take the NHL by storm. Detroit is riding a three-game winning streak entering their game Thursday night against the Washington Capitals. With the win against the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday, Detroit now has a record of 7-5-2.

Waiting for the Red Wings is a hungry and rested Capitals team with revenge on their mind. Detroit won the first meeting of the season 3-2 in overtime back in October.

Capitals vs. Red Wings NHL Betting Odds

Prior to their Oct. 27 loss in overtime, the Capitals had won five-straight games against the Red Wings. The Capitals appeared to be on their way to another victory, taking a 2-0 lead in the second period. However, the resilient Red Wings rallied to score three unanswered goals with Dylan Larkin burying the winner in overtime.

Despite all that, 84 per cent of bettors are still taking Washington as a -143 favourite on the NHL odds board. Washington is 4-0 in their last four meetings in Detroit.

Washington Capitals

Washington is struggling with injuries this season as Nicklas Backstrom, Anthony Mantha, and T.J Oshie remain out of the lineup. Still, the Capitals are currently in third place with a 6-2-4 record in a tough Metropolitan Division. Alex Ovechkin continues to lead the NHL in goals with 11 at the age of 36. Ovechkin just tied Brett Hull for fourth all-time in NHL goals. Ovechkin already has a goal against the Red Wings this season and has scored in each of his last three contests against Detroit.

Detroit Red Wings

Entering the season nobody expected Detroit to be this good, but this is what happens when management is patient with a rebuild. The Red Wings boast the top two rookie scoring leaders in Lucas Raymond and Moritz Seider who have 14 and 11 points respectively. Other than Detroit is a goal-scoring by committee team.

Head coach Jeff Blashill has the Red Wings playing smart defensive hockey lately as well. They held the Oilers and Golden Knights to four combined goals over the last two games. It will be interesting to see how Blashill plays his cards in terms of his goaltenders tonight. He has two very capable goalies in Alex Nedeljkovic and Thomas Greiss.  Greiss played their first matchup and won so does Blashill go back to Greiss or give the Capitals a different look with Nedeljkovic?
