Vancouver’s trio of wins has them a point back of the final Wild-Card spot in the Western Conference, while Dallas is jockeying for second in the Central Division with Minnesota. Friday wraps up a three-game road trip for Vancouver too — a spot they’ve thrived in this season with 14 wins and seven losses away from home in 2024–25.

Dallas will be without star defenceman Miro Heiskanen in this game and for the next couple weeks. The Finnish d-man was injured on Tuesday at Vegas and will also now miss the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament next month.

Puck drop at American Airlines Center gets going at 8 p.m. EST with Dallas a -180 moneyline favourite and the over-under at 5.5 on the NHL odds.

Canucks vs. Stars NHL Betting Odds

Vancouver comes in having won seven of their last meetings with the Stars, and six of the last eight played in Dallas. Friday’s the first of three regular season meetings between the Canucks and the Stars. Two of the three Canucks–Stars meetings last season featured a total of four or fewer goals.

Dallas ranks third in the NHL with 2.46 goals allowed per game this season, which has led to a ton of unders — especially at home. The under is 16-7-3 in Dallas’ home games this season, and has hit in eight of their last 11 games overall. Over Vancouver’s three-game win streak, they’ve allowed a total of four goals.

Vancouver Canucks

Quinn Hughes is doing everything he can to advance the Canucks into a playoff spot. The superstar d-man has had multiple points in all of Vancouver’s last three wins, netting two assists at Nashville in the Canucks 3-1 win on Wednesday. Linus Karlsson scored his first NHL goal in the win. Hughes now has points in six straight games and has a league-high 58 points for a defenceman this season.

More importantly, Thatcher Demko put forth one of his strongest outings of the season with 31 saves on 32 shots faced. Demko’s 4-5-3 this season with an .877 save percentage. Given the importance of Friday’s tilt, don’t be surprised if the Canucks roll with Kevin Lankinen in net. Lankinen’s been Vancouver’s top goalie this season, posting a .906 save percentage.

Dallas Stars

Dallas’ scoring depth continues to come through in the clutch, Wyatt Johnston being the latest to step up. Johnston’s natural hat-trick at Vegas on Tuesday earned the Stars a 4-3 comeback win. Eight 20-goal scorers is what carried Dallas to a division title a season ago, and while repeating would be a stretch, the depth is still there and making the Stars a dangerous squad.

Johnston is one of seven Stars with double-digit goals this season. He’s currently centring Jason Robertson and Evgenii Dadonov on Dallas’ top line, and the former is catching fire. Robertson’s riding a streak of registering points in eight of his last nine games and is up to eight goals and 10 assists in the month of January.
