The Canucks and Flames are both coming off games against Montreal. Vancouver lost 4-2 to the Habs on Tuesday, while Calgary has had a nice break since shutting out the Canadiens 1-0 on Saturday.

The Flames are -145 favourites to win on the NHL odds, with the total pegged at 5.5.

Canucks vs. Flames NHL Betting Odds

Calgary has won two of three games in the season series. Those wins could be significant when it comes to the playoff picture as the Flames currently hold the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference, one point up on Vancouver.

The road hasn’t been kind to the Canucks lately as they’ve dropped four of their last five games away from Rogers Arena. On the flip side, Calgary hasn’t been playing their best hockey, picking up just two wins in their last six games overall.

The Flames have been the better cover option, however, as they are 32-31 against the spread compared to Vancouver’s mark of 28-36 ATS. For what it’s worth, the Canucks are 15-17 ATS on the road and Calgary is 15-17 ATS at home.

Both teams have trended toward lower scoring games all year and that’s continued in recent weeks. The total has gone Under in 10 of Vancouver’s last 13 games, while the Flames have finished below the number in eight of nine.

Vancouver Canucks

It’s a quick turnaround for the Canucks after Tuesday’s loss to Montreal. Filip Hronek and Elias Pettersson scored for Vancouver, while Kevin Lankinen turned aside 23 of 26 shots faced. Two trends that continued in that game are particularly concerning. First, the Canucks’ offence has largely dried up, with the team failing to score more than three goals in 15 straight games dating back to Jan. 29. And possibly more concerning is Vancouver’s lack of comebacks this season. In fact, the Canucks are the only team in the league without a third-period comeback, going 0-19-4 when trailing after two periods.

It will be interesting to see what Vancouver does in net against Calgary. This is a massive game for their playoff hopes, but Thatcher Demko is out with a lower-body injury and Arturs Silovs has been brutal this season with a 1-6-1 record, 3.85 goals-against average and .858 save percentage. I would gues the Canucks will elect to give Lankinen a rare back-to-back start. The 29-year-old has easily been the best goalie for the team this season, going 22-12-7 with a 2.54 GAA and .905 SV.

Calgary Flames

Joel Farabee scored the lone goal in Calgary’s win over Montreal on Saturday, while Dustin Wolf stopped 26 shots for his third shutout of the season. The low offensive output has been a trend all year for the Flames as they are dead last in the NHL with just 2.56 goals per game. Calgary’s penalty kill has been one of the recent bright spots. The Flames went 2-for-2 on the PK against Montreal and they have killed off 17 straight penalties over their last five games.

Wolf will get the start against Vancouver. The 23-year-old rookie has been fantastic this season and Calgary would likely be sitting outside of the playoff picture if not for Wolf. He is 22-12-4 with a 2.52 GAA and .915 SV. If you’re looking for a futures play, Wolf has the fourth-shortest odds to win the Calder Trophy at +1000.
